Obituaries: Virginia Barto

ObitsServices will be held Saturday for Virginia Barto, 66, of Columbia. She was a former resident of the Coatesville area and a long-time teacher in the Coatesville Area School District.

During a short service, her ashes will be buried next to her first husband (Elmer Berkieheiser) in the Fairview Cemetery 786 Oak St, Coatesville Pa. on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00, family and guests are invited to attend.

Mrs. Barto died unexpectedly Thursday December 17, 2015 at Lancaster
General Hospital.  She was the wife of Kenneth Barto and they celebrated 15 years of marriage on November 25, 2015. Born in Coatesville, she was she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Covington) Clifton. She was a graduate of Lock Haven University and received her Masters of Education from Immaculate University, Philadelphia.

Virginia was a teacher at Coatesville Elementary  School, helping young
minds grow, from kindergarten through the 4th grade from 1970 until retirement in 2000. She was a member of Zion Lutheran  Church  in Marietta, and a member of Order of Eastern  Star Chapter #422 of Mount Joy. Her hobbies included reading, crafts, traveling, and  watching CNN.

Surviving in addition to her husband Ken, is a step-daughter Joanne Bucks, Marietta; three step-grandchildren Leigha, Ariah and Milana Bucks; two sisters, Janis wife of Joseph Raytik, Coatesville, Judith wife of Harold Wright, Newtown; three nieces and two nephews.
