The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents “Untempered,” a musical performance by composers who play in the nooks and crannies of musical tuning systems, on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. The performance is part of the College’s New Music Concert Series and will be held in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).

Integrating phenomena such as beatings and pitch discrepancies inherent in instrument design, ICE composers Larry Polansky, Peter Adriaansz and Karola Obermüller open our awareness of the acoustic realities and necessities of music. Four musicians from ICE’s 35-member ensemble will perform: Daniel Lippel (guitar), Nathan Davis (percussion), Nuiko Wadden (harp) and Ryan Muncy (saxophone). The Large Auditorium will serve as an ideal setting for the strange, immersive resonances of the musical pieces.

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) is an artist collective committed to transforming the way music is created and experienced. As performer, curator and educator, ICE explores how new music intersects with communities across the world. The ensemble’s 35 members are featured as soloists, chamber musicians, commissioners and collaborators with the foremost musical artists of our time. ICE has received the American Music Center’s Trailblazer Award and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, and was also named Musical America Worldwide’s Ensemble of the Year in 2014. The group currently serves as artists in residence at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, and previously led a five-year residency at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

Admission is $10, and tickets are available online, or at the door. ADA Assistive Listening Devices, accessible seating and free parking are available. For more information, visit www.dccc.edu/concerts, or contact Caitlin Flaherty, Assistant to the Dean for Arts Programming, at 610-359-52
