COATESVILLE – Coatesville Police officers have been spreading holiday cheer to local children by issuing ‘tickets’ for catching them doing something good, either in their community, at home or at school.

Since last week officers have been issuing shopper dollars and inviting children to the police station to redeem their tickets and choose a gift for themselves or a family member.

Officer Tyler Reece and Sergeant Rodger Ollis were on hand Thursday to help 10-year-old Cardye Ford, choose a special gift for earning excellent grades on her report card and for being such a big help to her mom at home.

“You’ve earned it for being a great daughter and a great big sister,” said Ollis.

“It’s really nice when you see people a few months after issuing them a ticket and getting to see the impression you left on them.” Reece said.

Officer Tyler Reece helped 10-year-old Cardye Ford choose a special gift for being a good daughter, big sister and for an excellent report card.

Ford was excited to pick out a pink and white soccer ball for herself and some special educational toys for her sisters who are six.

The police department estimates that 100 kids have been caught doing something good over the last week.

“A lot of times, kids see us in situations that are negative or emergencies,” said Ollis. “It’s our way of recognizing pro-social behavior and showing appreciation for contributing to an even better Coatesville.”

The City of Coatesville Police Department extends their gratitude to The Chester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 11, which generously donated all gifts for the holiday shop at the station.
