Waegel to lead county’s Department of Children, Youth and Familes

Douglas Waegel has been appointed by the Chester County Commissioners as the new Director of Chester County’s Department of Children Youth and Families.

Waegel has served as deputy director of the department for nearly nine years and during this time he has been responsible for the provision of all public child welfare program services for Chester County residents including in-home and placement services.

In addition, Waegel has served as part of a leadership team to implement legislative and regulatory changes within the Department of Children Youth and Families, and has promoted Chester County’s collaborative System of Care approach to programs and services.  Waegel has held various roles within the Department of Children Youth and Families for nearly 30 years.

Waegel currently co-chairs the Family Group Decision-Making Leadership Team established by the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts and helped to establish, and co-chaired the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Administrators Association governance board for county client data systems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Delaware and a Master of Social Sciences degree from Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research.
