Another arrest for familiar Coatesville name

Richard Legree Jr. in custody for 9 traffic warrants, police said

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA Coatesville man with an extended criminal past and a well-known family name interacted with police again Tuesday morning.

Richard Legree Jr., 34 – who spent two years in federal prison after a 2009 conviction for dealing crack-cocaine – was in a parked vehicle in the 300 block of East Chestnut Street at 1:11 a.m., police said. When Officer Jonathan Shave investigated, he determined that Legree had nine outstanding traffic warrants, police said. Legree was taken into custody on the warrants and held for the constables, police said.

Legree, who remains under federal supervision, is the son of the late Richard Legree Sr., a flamboyant former Coatesville City Councilman, ex-police officer and constable. Legree Jr. once complained that his father’s many high-profile brushes with the law made his son a target. During a 2007 trial in which he was convicted of possessing cocaine and driving with an altered license plate, Legree Jr. testified: “My last name is Legree; the police have it out for me.”

Coatesville police made another early-morning warrant arrest after a traffic stop for a faulty headlight in the 300 block of East Lincoln Highway on Tuesday at 2:32 a.m., Det. Shannon Miller reported. The driver, John Woodward, 29, was found to have two active warrants and was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said.

Officer Carmen Mollichella took a report Monday regarding a theft that occurred on Friday night between 10:15 and 11 p.m., police said. The victim stated he parked in a lot in the 300 block of East Lincoln Highway and returned to find that someone had been inside and that some personal belongings had been taken.

Troopers from the Embreeville barracks responded to a one-vehicle crash on Rt. 10, north of Beacon Light Road in West Caln Township, on May 8 at 12:39 a.m., state police said. Timothy B. Jakotowicz, 23, of Millsboro, failed to negotiate a curve in his 1995 Volvo WIA, struck an embankment and jack-knifed, police said. Jakotowicz, who was not injured, was cited for speeding, police said.

Kenneth Bermudez, 22, of Coatesville, was cited by Kennett Square police on May 11 for disorderly conduct after a traffic stop  in the 600 block of East Cypress Street at 1:52 p.m., Kennett Square police said.
