Police: 2 officers injured by alleged drug-dealer

Coatesville man, 37, facing multiple charges

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA 37-year-old Coatesville resident has been charged with numerous aggravated assault and drug offenses after an attack on Friday night that left two city officers recovering from injuries, police said.

Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie reported that Officers Joe Thompson and David Marquette were conducting an investigation of an occupied vehicle on Scott Middle School property at South Eighth Avenue and Stirling Street on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11:05 p.m. When the officers approached the vehicle, the driver, Glen M. Hines, began yelling and became belligerent, police said.

Hines allegedly elbowed Thompson in the face, drawing blood, and injured Marquette in the back and knee before fleeing, police said. Officers gave chase, and Hines was apprehended after a pursuit that required a Taser, police said. A subsequent search revealed numerous prescription pills, marijuana and a digital scale in Hines’ possession, police said. A search of Hines’ vehicle led to more marijuana and U.S. currency, police said.

Both officers required hospital treatment for their injuries, but have been released, police said. Hines was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Gregory Hines, who is not related to him, and taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post $50,000 cash bail, police said.

A 22-year-old Coatesville resident was cited for retail theft after he was detained on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 8:13 p.m. at the Coatesville Community Market, Officer Joe Thompson reported.  Police said Kelsey Wilkinson, who was also cited for possessing marijuana, said he “tried to steal Oreo cookies to prove to his little brother that he could do it.”

Andre M. Flowers, 35, of Coatesville, was taken into custody in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway on Thursday, Nov. 14, on several warrants from Chester County Domestic Relations, Officer Chris McCarthy reported.

On Friday, Nov. 15, police spotted Donald Bernard, 28, in the area of North Second Avenue at 4:23 p.m., Cpl. Ken Michels reported. He was taken into custody on bench warrants to await transport by constables to Chester County Prison, police said.

Police are investigating the theft of six cages placed in several locations in the city’s west end by Forgotten Cats, the organization partnering with Coatesville to reduce its feral cat population, Officer Stephen Galletta reported. Police said the cages cost approximately $50 apiece.

A 25-year-old man faces burglary charges from a Friday, Nov. 15, break-in at 4:41 a.m. in the 700 block of Diamond Street, Officer Joe Thompson reported. Thompson responded to the location and found a point of entry as well as personal items and burglary tools that had been left behind, police said. The officer waited at a nearby location and took Ken Santos into custody when he returned about 20 minutes later to retrieve his belongings, police said.

Police filed a non-traffic citation on Thursday, Nov. 14, against Joseph Jackson, 43, of Philadelphia, in connection with a pattern of harassing phone calls and text messages to his ex-girlfriend, Officer Raymond Jaglowicz reported.
