Rotary Clubs to face off in competition for Food Bank donations<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Chester County Food Bank’s warehouse in Uwchlan Township has shelves in need of replenishment, and the local Rotary Clubs are stepping in to assist with a spirited food fight.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown\u00a0<\/b>has challenged the\u00a0Rotary Club of Coatesville\u00a0in its First\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Annual\u00a0Food Fight\u00a0to benefit the\u00a0Chester County Food Bank (CCFB).<\/p>\n

The Rotary Clubs invite the Chester County community to participate in this effort by collecting and dropping off food at designated drop-off points.\u00a0 The goal is\u00a0to collect 1,000 pounds of food – a combined total from both clubs – by\u00a0Feb. 28. \u00a0The food will be picked up from the drop-off points and transported to the CCFB, where it will be weighed and the winning club will be announced.<\/p>\n

The type of food needed includes canned meat (fish and soups); canned ready-to-eat meals; canned vegetable and tomato products; peanut butter (plastic container); iron-rich cereal (45% or more of daily value); 100% fruit juice (48 oz. or less, plastic bottles); canned fruit (in juice); dry beans (any type); enriched rice or pasta; and powdered milk. Check to make sure dates for usage have not expired.<\/p>\n

Food collection points will be placed across the Chester County region during the month of February. \u00a0Drop-off points for the Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown will include boxes at Fulton Bank locations in Chester County, Bonds Eye Care in Downingtown, and Triton\u2019s Sea Food.\u00a0\u00a0For a complete list, check at the club\u2019s Facebook page at https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Rotary.ThorndalePA.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the holidays, many organizations hold food drives and, as a result, there is a lot to share with the less fortunate. But come March, the food pantries are almost empty, as people are in recovery mode,\u201d stated William Keen, president of the Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown.\u00a0 \u201cTo keep the spirit of giving going while helping feed our local community, we at the Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown thought it would be fun to create this \u20181st<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Food Fight\u2019 with our friends at the Rotary Club of Coatesville.\u201d<\/p>\n
