Broad Street, Kennett Square, 610-444-8188, <a href=\"http:\/\/kennettbrewfest.com\/\"><span class=\"s3\">http:\/\/kennettbrewfest.com<\/span><\/a>), which will be held on October 10, is a fundraising event with all proceeds going to Historic Kennett Square, a non-profit organization working to keep Kennett Square a regional economic and cultural center. The Kennett Brewfest is intended to be an opportunity to sample some of the best regional and national craft beers accompanied by great food and live music.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All attendees have access to food and merchandise vendors, live bands, sponsor tables, and more during the entire event. Doors open at noon for the Connoisseur Tasting. The regular fest is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. All taps will close at 6 p.m. Participants\u2019 tickets will be scanned at the entrance, where they will receive their tasting cup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the featured beers will be locally-brewed favorites such as Kennett Brewing Company, Victory Brewing Company, Chaddsford Hard Cider and Twin Lakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The long and impressive list of participating breweries includes Allagash, ABC, Anchor, Argilla, Armstrong Ales, Ballast Point, Ballentine, Bell\u2019s, Big Hill Ciderworks, Blue Moon, Bold Rock Cidery, Boulevard, Blue Bus, Brooklyn, Cape May, Captain Lawrence, Carton, Conshohocken, Cottontail, Cottrell, Dark Horse, Deschutes, Destihl, Dock Street, Dominion, Duck-Rabbit, Evil Genius, Evil Twin, Evolution, Flying Dog, Flying Fish, Forest and Main, Forgotten Boardwalk and Frecon Cidery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Also featured will be Free Will, Full Pin, Goose Island, Great Divide, Great Lakes, Guinness, Heretic, Ithaca, Knee Deep, Kona, Lake Placid, Lancaster, \u00a0Leinenkugels, Levante, Liquid Hero, Longtrail, Magic Hat, Magner\u2019s,\u00a0 McKenzie\u2019s, Merchant du Vin, Naked, Neshaminy Creek, New Belgium, Newport Storm, Old Forge, Ommegang, Oskar Blues, Other Farm, Otter Creek, Prak Organic, Penn, Prism, Red Castle, Riverhorse and Rivertowne.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The line-up for 2015 also includes, Rogue, Round Guys, Samuel Adams, Saranac, Schofferhoffer, Shawnee Craft, Shiner, Shipyard, Sierra Nevada, Sixpoint, SlyFox, Sole Artisan, Springhouse, St. Benjamin, St. Boniface, Stable 12, Star Hill, \u00a0Stillwater, Stone, Stoudt\u2019s, Straub, Summit, Susquehanna, Thomas Creek, Three Heads, Tired Hands, Traveler, 2SP, Troeg\u2019s, Two Roads, Weyerbacher, Woodchuck, Yards, Yuengling and Zero Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tickets are $50 for \u201cGeneral Admission\u201d and $75 for \u201cConnoisseur Tasting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Sipping crisp, chilled wines in a comfortable outdoor setting is a great way to spend a crisp, cool autumn afternoon. Fortunately, you have two good options to do that this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/F_WineFest-300x126.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-1196523 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/F_WineFest-300x126.gif\" alt=\"F_WineFest\" \/><\/a>On October 11, more than 1,500 wine lovers will gather to help wage war against cancer at the 24th Annual Dilworthtown Inn Wine Festival (Dilworthtown Inn, 1390 Old Wilmingtown Pike, West Chester, 610-431-5329, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chestercountyhospital.org\/cchfdn.asp?p=1210\"><span class=\"s4\">http:\/\/www.chestercountyhospital.org\/cchfdn.asp?p=1210<\/span><\/a>). The event kicks off at noon and runs until 4 p.m. &#8212; rain or shine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The festival features more than 100 wines, craft beers, hard cider along with delicious food prepared by Dilworthtown Inn chefs. There will also be a \u201cSilent Auction,\u201d shopping opportunities in the Gallery of Artisan Vendors, live music and a Performance Car Show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. The Dilworthtown Inn, and the Brandywine and Greystone branches of The Women\u2019s Auxiliary to Chester County Hospital jointly organize this event.\u00a0Proceeds from the wine festival benefit patients of The Cancer Program of Chester County Hospital and Neighborhood Health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 10, the Sixth Annual Fall Wine Festival (Skippack Pike, Skippack, 610- 584-1155, <a href=\"http:\/\/winetober.com\/\"><span class=\"s4\">http:\/\/winetober.com<\/span><\/a>) will be held Saturday from 1-6 p.m. along the main street of the scenic village near the Skippack Creek in Montgomery County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The popular annual event, which is also known as Winetober\u00a0Fest,\u00a0will feature vendors with a tasty array of wine and food samples along with live music. Tickets for the event, which include food and wine sampling, are $25.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Two of Chester County\u2019s most popular wineries will be participating in Saturday\u2019s event &#8212; Paradocx Winery and Chadds Ford Winery. And, there will even be a meadery &#8212; Stonekemp Meadery from Birdsboro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The list of participating wineries also includes Allegro Winery, Bee Kind Winery, Peace Valley Winery, Franklin Hill Vineyards, Benignas Creek Vineyard and Winery, Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars, Kog Hill Winery, Naylor Winery, Grovedale Winery and A\u2019Dello Vineyard and Winery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the featured food stations will be Bespoke Bacon, Sherri\u2019s Crabcakes, Eurban\u2019s Wood-Fired Gourmet Pizza, Horn &amp; Hardart Brands, Mainland Inn and Over the Top Bake Shop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The following bands will be performing at the event &#8212;\u00a0James Lauchmen Band,\u00a0<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">Brick Duo,\u00a0Roman &amp; The Hard Lickers,\u00a0Dave Sounders,\u00a0Bill &amp; All Duo, and\u00a0Dave Ling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Community-Day-105x300.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1196524\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Community-Day-105x300.jpg\" alt=\"Print\" \/><\/a>Paradocx Vineyard will also be busy on its home turf this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">From 1-5 p.m. on October 11, Paradocx Vineyard (1833 Flint Hill Road, Landenberg, 610-444-9003, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paradocx.com\/\"><span class=\"s6\">www.paradocx.com<\/span><\/a>), will host its Seventh Annual Community Day &#8212; a free event designed to bring people from the area together.\u00a0Everyone is invited to visit the winery, sample the goods of local food purveyors and check out the work of local artisans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Special activities include a live free c<b>oncert <\/b>by <b>Sara Spicer<\/b>, a wine-dyed r-shirt workshop, a painting workshop and \u201cPumpkin Painting for Kids.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Chester County Art Association (100 North Bradford Avenue, West Chester, 610-696-5600, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chestercountyarts.org\/\"><span class=\"s3\">http:\/\/www.chestercountyarts.org<\/span><\/a>) is presenting a very special event over the next 10 days &#8212; a special display called \u201cFounders Exhibition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ccaa-wyeth-2-200x300.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-1196525 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ccaa-wyeth-2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"ccaa wyeth 2\" \/><\/a>It will feature 17 rarely-viewed N.C. Wyeth paintings in hallmark exhibit in CCAA\u2019s Allinson Gallery. These impressive paintings by internationally acclaimed artist and CCAA Founder N.C. Wyeth will be exhibited from October 10-18 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily (11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sundays).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Most of these works make up a unique and stunning set which is on loan\u00a0from The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. The only one form a different source is \u201cThe Giant,\u201d which is on\u00a0loan from Westtown School. Each of The Hill School\u2019s 16 paintings illustrates a literary work by an American poet such as Walt Whitman\u00a0and Henry Longfellow, and depicts a momentous event in our history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Under normal circumstances, \u201cThe Giant\u201d can be found as the central attraction in the dining room of the\u00a0Westtown School. \u00a0As the largest\u00a0painting in the Founders Exhibition, CCAA will enjoy the privilege of including it with the same central billing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">N.C.\u00a0Wyeth was a pre-eminent early 20th century painter who helped to establish the \u201cBrandywine tradition\u201d of\u00a0painting. \u00a0Admission to this exhibition is $15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In conjunction with this event, the Brandywine Artisan Wine Trail (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brandywineartisanwinetrail.com\/\"><span class=\"s3\">http:\/\/www.brandywineartisanwinetrail.com<\/span><\/a>) will offer a special attraction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">To help promote this important exhibition, each of the Trail\u2019s wineries will have art cards with one image from the N.C. Wyeth exhibition. If you collect five or more different cards, you can receive two-for-one admission at the door to the Chester County art show. If you write your name and contact information on the back of the card, you may\u00a0be the lucky winner of a basket of Chester County wines from our area wineries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This art card collection game is free with no obligation to purchase anything. It is designed to encourage people to visit different wineries in the area, and go to the Chester County Art Association Exhibition. The wineries of the Trail are extending an invitation to come for the wine and enjoy the art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Members of the Trail are Black Walnut Winery, Borderland Vineyard, Chaddsford Winery, Flickerwood Wine Tasting Room, Galer Estate Winery, Grace Winery, Historic Hopewell Vineyards, Kreutz Creek Vineyards, J. Maki Winery, Paradocx Vineyard, Penns Woods Winery, Stargazers Vineyard &amp; Winery, Ten Gallon Hat Winery, Va La Vineyard and Wilson Vineyard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This weekend\u2019s schedule also features two long-running fall festivals that have become area traditions &#8212; the Friends Fall Festival at the Downingtown Friends Meeting and the Hay Creek Apple Festival at Historic Joanna Furnace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One of the most easy-going autumn events in the area is the annual Friends Fall Festival (Downingtown Friends Meeting, 800 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, 610-269-4223, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.downingtownfriendsmeeting.org\/\"><span class=\"s3\">www.downingtownfriendsmeeting.org<\/span><\/a>) which is scheduled for October 10 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1196526\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/down-friends-300x267.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1196526\" class=\"wp-image-1196526 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/down-friends-300x267.gif\" alt=\"down friends\" width=\"300\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1196526\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Friends Fall Festival is Saturday in Downingtown<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One of the most popular fall festivals in the region, the Friends Fall Festival has been offering families a day of wholesome fun and value for more than 30 years. A special supervised area includes children\u2019s crafts and games. There\u2019s also a hay wagon ride and exceptional face painting for both kids and adults.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the free festival\u2019s many attractions are plant, craft and white elephant sales, the Friends Mercantile for the sale of books, housewares, jewelry and children\u2019s toys and the Quaker Heritage Exhibit, which features antique Quaker clothing and memorabilia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At 2 p.m. there will be a re-enactment of the first wedding held in the Meeting House in 1806. Visitors can attend the wedding inside the Meeting House and have photographs taken with the bride and groom and wedding party &#8212; all of whom will be dressed in authentically reproduced early 19th-century Quaker garb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The festival, which also offers free parking, will feature live folk and rock music along with demonstrations and community exhibits. There will also be a variety of tasty food items available for purchase. The Wooden Ladle will offer homemade vegetarian chili, hearty vegetable soup, juicy grilled hot dogs, funnel cake and hot apple cider, coffee, or cold drinks. The Friendly Cafe, which is an indoor venue, features homemade pastries, pumpkin and apple pies, specialty teas, cakes and coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Friends Mercantile, a not-to-be-missed stop for serious garage-sale shoppers, opens its doors at 9 a.m. and attracts a loyal following of shoppers with everything from fine gifts to children\u2019s toys, books, housewares, jewelry, electronics, and more. The festival\u2019s craft vendors offer everything from handcrafted needlework to woodcraft, leather, ceramics and more .<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hay Creek Apple Festival (Historic Joanna Furnace, Route 10, Morgantown, 610-286-0388, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haycreek.org\/\"><span class=\"s4\">www.haycreek.org<\/span><\/a>), which also has been around for more than 30 years, is scheduled for October 10 and 11. The festival is a celebration of autumn and especially autumn\u2019s favorite fruit &#8212; the apple &#8212; with a long list of special activities and an amazing variety of taste treats featuring apples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There will be more than 2,000 apple dumplings and over 800 apple pies ready for consumption this weekend at the festival. Also offered will be a variety of other treats such as fresh-pressed apple cider, apple waffles, apple crisp, Schnitz Un Knepp, apple fritters and the famous Hay Creek Apple Butter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The festival will have a variety of family fun events starting with the belly-filling \u201cAll-You-Can Eat Apple Pancake Breakfast\u201d from 7-11 a.m. Other family activities will be hayrides, scarecrow building, mini-tractor rides, pumpkin painting, Early American games, pony rides, an \u201cApple Dessert Contest\u201d, basket weaving, Early American craft demonstrations and rides on the \u201cApple Barrel Express.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The festival, which runs from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday, will also feature a flea market with over 100 stands. Visitors can shop for crafts, flowers, fall items, antiques and other items related to Berks County history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If you\u2019re driving around the West Chester area on October 11and you\u2019re hit by the overwhelming aroma of spicy chili being cooked, there is a good reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/chili-225x300.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-1196527 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/chili-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"chili\" \/><\/a>This Sunday, West Chester will be the site of a special event to determine who can make \u201cThe Best Darn Chili in Chester County!\u201d &#8212; the site of the West Chester Rotary\u2019s 13th Annual Chili Cookoff (Gay and High streets, Downtown West Chester, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westchesterchilicookoff.com\/\"><span class=\"s4\">www.westchesterchilicookoff.com<\/span><\/a>). All-you-can-eat wristbands are just $10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There will be more than 70 \u201cChili Teams\u201d competing for the top prize in the following divisions &#8212; \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice,\u201d \u201cBusiness,\u201d \u201cRestaurant,\u201d \u201cNon-Profit\u201d and \u201cHometown\/Volunteer Cook.\u201d Each team will prepare its best chili and submit a sample to a panel of local \u201ccelebrity\u201d judges who name Best Chili in each category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The family-oriented event, which runs from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., will also feature a \u201cJust 4 Kids\u201d area on East Gay Street (with kids\u2019 bounces, slides and other games), a variety of crafters who will be selling their goods, live entertainment and an array of food vendors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation (Ridley Creek State Park, Media, 610-566-1725, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colonialplantation.org\/\"><span class=\"s3\">www.colonialplantation.org<\/span><\/a>) hosts an event called \u201cFall Flax and Textile Day\u201d on October 10 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Winter is coming and it is time to process flax and spin wool. The Plantaion\u2019s weavers will be working on an 18<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">-century barn loom. Yarn will be dyed using authentic receipts. Visitors are invited to come see the horned dorset sheep and hog island sheep of the Colonial Plantation as well as the rest of its farm animals. There will also be hearth cooking, garden, farm, and house tours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children (ages 4-12). Children under age 4 are free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 11, the scenic historic site, which is located in the middle of Ridley Creek State Park, will present house tours, long rifle and woodworking demonstrations, farm tours, and a \u201cWonderful World of Weeds Walk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Halloween activities are starting to fill up the area events calendar faster than ou can imagine. The following is a chronological look at many of these events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cValley of Terror\u201d (1215 Wawaset Rd., Kennett Square, 484-886-6080, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valleyofterror.com\/\"><span class=\"s6\">www.valleyofterror.com<\/span><\/a>) will be held now through November 1 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday each weekend and will offer two attractions &#8212; \u201cZombie Safari,\u201d which features a zombie-killing ride in the back of a 40-foot military truck stocked with individual, bolted-down paintball guns, and \u201cGateway to Hell,\u201d which is an unguided and unlit stroll through scary territory. Admission is $20 for \u201cGateway to Hell,\u201d $25 for the \u201cZombie Safari\u201d and $38 for a \u201cCombo Ticket.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The 25<\/span><span class=\"s7\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> annual edition of \u201cHaunted Hayride, Bates Motel and Haunted Corn Trail at Arasapha Farm\u201d (1835 N. Middletown Rd., Gradyville, 610-459-0647, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebatesmotel.com\/\"><span class=\"s6\">www.thebatesmotel.com<\/span><\/a>) will be scaring visitors through November 1.The haunted hayride through the woods features monsters, special effects and actors. The Bates Motel has haunted rooms with special effects and computerized lighting. A haunted trail is cut through a cornfield inhabited by monsters.
