{"id":15282,"date":"2016-10-19T08:27:25","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T12:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=15282"},"modified":"2016-10-19T08:27:27","modified_gmt":"2016-10-19T12:27:27","slug":"letter-new-funding-needed-for-growing-greener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=15282","title":{"rendered":"Letter: New funding needed for Growing Greener"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">To the Editor:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Letters1-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2136 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Letters1-6.jpg\" alt=\"letters1\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>Pennsylvania\u2019s Growing Greener program has a proud history of success in protecting our water, conserving our natural lands, preserving our family farms and providing outdoor recreation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">However, much work still needs to be done in order to ensure future generations have access to clean water, locally-grown food and public parks, trails and recreational opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Unfortunately, funding for the Growing Greener program is at an all-time low.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Pennsylvania Growing Greener Coalition recently unveiled a plan detailing the need for $315 million in annual investments in order to protect our water, land and other natural resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">More than 150 conservation, preservation and recreation organizations from across the Commonwealth have endorsed the plan and are calling on the Governor and Legislature to act.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Senate Bill 1374, sponsored by Sen. Tom Killion, establishes a framework for creating a Growing Greener III program and is the first step forward.
