{"id":15569,"date":"2016-11-09T07:51:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-09T12:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=15569"},"modified":"2016-11-09T07:51:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-09T12:51:50","slug":"gop-sweeps-local-state-house-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=15569","title":{"rendered":"GOP sweeps local State House races"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><em>Dinniman the lone Democrat to win in legislative races<\/em><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>By Mike McGann<\/strong>, <em>Editor, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Election2016-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2402\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Election2016-1-300x276.jpg\" alt=\"election2016\" width=\"300\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a>Although Democrats fared well in Chester County at the top of the ticket \u2014 Hillary Clinton, despite losing Pennsylvania and nationally to Donald Trump, won Chester County by nine points and Democrats swept the three\u00a0statewide row office races \u2014 but Republicans swept Congressional races and state house races, Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For the Republicans, U.S. Senator Pat Toomey won both Chester County as the state as a whole, winning reelection to a second term, defeating Democrat Katie McGinty. U.S. Reps Ryan Costello (R-6) and Pat Meehan (R-7) defeated their respective Democratic challengers, Mike Parrish and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Mary Ellen Balchunis, while Republican Lloyd Smucker won a fairly easy race \u2014 despite polling that showed a tight contest \u2013 over Democrat Christina Hartman in the 16th District.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D-19) was the lone Democratic legislator elected, Tuesday. Sen.
