Belinda Harrison was a single mother who worked tirelessly for years in Chester County\u2019s social services and her community, dedicating her life to empowering women and the underserved.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>WEST CHESTER\u00a0 \u2014 The Chester County Single Mothers\u2019 Conference sponsored by Benchmark Federal Credit Union is honoring a working single mom who has overcome adversity and is active in her community.<\/p>\n<p>21-year-old Tierra White, of Coatesville, is the winner of this year\u2019s Belinda Harrison Award, announced Saturday, April 14 at the Chester County Single Mothers\u2019 Conference at Henderson High School in West Chester. Sponsored for a third consecutive year by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benchmarkfcu.org\/\">Benchmark Federal Credit Union<\/a>, all single mothers attended the Chester County Single Mothers\u2019 Conference free of charge.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>White was nominated by her peers, who say she has worked two jobs while attending school full time to provide the best life for her daughter. White also volunteers at her daughter\u2019s school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver and over again, Tierra has been described as someone who overcomes life\u2019s obstacles with determination and courage. She\u2019s an inspiration to all of us,\u201d says Benchmark Federal Credit Union Vice President of Marketing Rebecca Worthington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur conference theme this year is \u2018single\u2019 does not mean \u2018alone.\u2019 We want to reinforce that by recognizing Tierra and all of the single mothers in our community,\u201d says Conference Co-Chair Matrie Johnson, of PA Home of the Sparrow.<\/p>\n<p>Runners-up for the award were Lynn Blake, a mother of two and grandmother who has successfully navigated life\u2019s challenges while helping others, as well as Tranae Hunt, a business owner and integral part of the ministry in her family\u2019s church.<\/p>\n<p>The Chester County Single Mothers\u2019 Conference included more than 70 exhibitors and speakers who provided resources and activities including workshops, clinics and demonstrations on parenting, self-defense, custody, child support and more. Benchmark Federal Credit Union offered financial guidance, including tips on how to build credit, assessment of individual financial situations, and ways for single mothers to make the most of their paychecks.
