The highly talented orchestra performs several shows in the area each year with highlight concerts being the annual summer program \u201cSymphony Under the Stars\u201d at Longwood Gardens and the annual winter holiday concert, \u201cPops Goes the Holidays.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">On December 7, the Kennett Symphony will present \u201cPops Goes the Holidays\u201d at Rustin High School Auditorium (1100 Shiloh Road, West Chester, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennettsymphony.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.kennettsymphony.org<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Under the baton of Conductor and Music Director Michael Hall, the Kennett Symphony along with the Chester County Choral Society, will perform a variety of holiday classics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0\u201cWe do a different holiday show every year,\u201d said Hall, during a phone interview Monday afternoon. \u201cThis is the first year in my time to feature a full choir.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cInstead of a children\u2019s choir, the Chester County Choral Society will be joining in. The first time to work with the chorus for this show will be Tuesday night and then we\u2019ll be rehearsing Friday night and Saturday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cA great thing about holiday concerts, people expect things they know. But you also want a program with pieces they don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The program for the 2019 musical extravaganza includes John Williams\u2019 \u201cMerry Christmas\u201d from the movie \u201cHome Alone,\u201d Carl Strommen\u2019s \u201cThere\u2019s Christmas in the Air,\u201d John Rutter\u2019s\u00a0\u201cWhat Sweeter Music,\u201d Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u00a0\u201cNutcracker: Trepak; Arabian; Waltz of the Flowers,\u201d and Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett\u2019s \u201cMany Moods of Christmas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Also featured will be Robert Wendel\u2019s \u201cA Chanukah Overture\u201d and \u201cAn Evergreen Christmas,\u201d Leroy Anderson\u2019s \u201cSleigh Ride,\u201d Richard Hayman\u2019s arrangement of\u201cCarol of the Bells,\u201d Bruce Chase\u2019s arrangement of \u201cChristmas Favorites,\u201d George Frideric Handel\u2019s \u201cHallelujah Chorus,\u201d John Finnegan\u2019s \u201cSing a Long,\u201d and Gary Fry\u2019s arrangement of \u201cWe wish you a Merry Christmas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe begin the program with John Williams\u2019 piece from \u2018Home Alone,\u201d said Hall. \u201cThe program has a lot of familiar holiday sing-alongs with the full symphony \u2013 songs such as \u2018Sleigh Ride, \u2018Carol of the Bells,\u2019 \u2018We Wish You a Merry Christmas\u2019 and music from the \u2018Nutcracker.\u2019 People love it<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201c\u2018Many Moods of Christmas\u2019 is a collection of carols. Rutter\u2019s piece is a beautiful thing for chorus. He\u2019s an English composer known for writing choral pieces for holiday concerts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThere is a lot of variety in this program and a lot of songs people will recognize. Some pieces are boisterous, and some are really tender. It\u2019s important to find the right arrangements. That\u2019s the key.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThe final piece in the show is \u2018We Wish You a Merry Christmas,\u2019 which features a wonderful arrangement by Gary Fry.
