{"id":27013,"date":"2020-05-01T09:25:09","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=27013"},"modified":"2020-05-01T09:25:10","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:25:10","slug":"commissioners-extend-tax-deadlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=27013","title":{"rendered":"Commissioners extend tax deadlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/ChesterCountyLogo-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11662\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/ChesterCountyLogo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>WEST CHESTER \u2014 The Chester County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously at this week\u2019s public Commissioners\u2019 Meeting to extend the deadline for payment of County property taxes, due to the economic impact of the coronavirus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Recognizing that the finances of many Chester County taxpayers have been negatively affected by the closure of local businesses, layoffs and uncertainty of financial markets instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commissioners voted to waive any fees or penalties on taxes paid in their entirety by July 31, 2020. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Commissioners\u2019 ability to enact the tax deadline extension is a result of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania\u2019s Act 15 of 2020, signed into law by Governor Wolf on April 20th.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Act 15 of 2020 allows taxing authorities such as Chester County that impose taxes on the assessed value of real property, to provide relief to taxpayers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Work by the County\u2019s Department of Information Services has technically enabled this deadline extension to 2020 County property taxes to occur.
