Philadelphia Flower Show<\/p><\/div>\n

If you\u2019re in the mood for flowers \u2013 lots and lots of flowers \u2013 all you need do is make a visit to this year\u2019s Philadelphia Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (12th and Arch streets, Philadelphia, 215-988-8899,\u00a0www.theflowershow.com<\/a>)\u00a0which runs through March 12.<\/p>\n

The PHS (Philadelphia Horticultural Society) Philadelphia Flower Show is the nation\u2019s largest and longest-running horticultural event and features stunning displays by the world\u2019s premier floral and landscape designers. Started in 1829, the Show introduces diverse plant varieties and sustainable garden and design concepts.<\/p>\n

Usually, when events have to be moved, they move indoors because of inclement weather. In 2021 and 2022, the Philadelphia Flower Show mad to move \u2013 outdoors because of COVID restraints. <\/p>\n

Held indoors once again after two years in FDR Park, the\u00a0Philadelphia Flower Show\u00a0returns to the Pennsylvania Convention Center with the theme \u201cThe Garden Electric.\u201d<\/p>\n

Visitors can expect breathtaking displays by the world\u2019s premier floral and landscape designers, as well as musical performances from a slate of hand-picked artists.<\/p>\n

Several designers create the largest gardens in the show\u2019s history to transport visitors into immersive, 360-degree floral worlds \u2014 blurring the lines between indoors and out.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event also features some of the largest gardens in its history, with floral scapes that range in size from 2,200 to 2,900 square feet.<\/p>\n

The show, which is presented every year by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and celebrates its 194th anniversary in 20233, treats visitors to a spectacle of floral displays in every size, style and shape imaginable.<\/p>\n

The show will feature 10 acres of exhibition halls with floral displays and vendors and provide visitors with all new interactive experiences. This inviting part of the show will feature garden trends, chats with experts, and hands-on learning sessions for gardeners to become even greener.<\/p>\n

Guests are encouraged to enhance their Flower Show visit each day with other popular experiences, including Flower Show Guided Tours in the early morning and now also in the evening, Butterflies Live, and Make & Take DIY. The Flower Show also features an exciting competition that brings together thousands of plant lovers who compete in hundreds of categories.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s biggest attraction each year is the massive \u201cMarketplace\u201d featuring over 150 vendors from all over America and several European nations. They will be selling flowers, orchids, floral-inspired furniture, sheds, artwork and unique garden-related crafts and supplies.<\/p>\n

Throughout the week, hundreds of gardening experts will provide learning opportunities in the Lecture Series.<\/p>\n

Be prepared for large crowds during the weekend hours. If you want a more leisurely visit, plan to visit the show during the week. Also, take public transportation if possible. Vehicular traffic in the area is frequently a nightmare and parking lots tend to fill up early even though they are charging exorbitant fees.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the Philadelphia Flower Show are $43.50 for adults, $30 for\u00a0student (ages 18-24) and $17\u00a0for children ages 5-17.<\/p>\n

March 3 is the day for First Friday happenings around the area.<\/p>\n

\"\"Visitors can head to Downtown West Chester 9www.downtownwestchester.com\/event\/march-first-friday-2023<\/a>) on March 3 for First Friday activities.<\/p>\n

Along with extended hours, events, and sales at stores, there will be Irish Step Dancing from The McGough Academy of Irish Dance and free face painting from Birl Girl Designs. Both will take place at 44 W Gay Street in the Jack Loew Plaza from 4:30-6 p.m.<\/p>\n

First Friday events can be found at Church Street Gallery, Kildare\u2019s Irish Pub, David Katz Gallery, Ginko Arts, Mayday Coffee Shop, OutLash and Pine+Quill.<\/p>\n

Street-level, metered parking is free after 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

Lancaster\u2019s popular First Friday (http:\/\/www.visitlancastercity.com\/first-friday\/<\/a>) is an arts extravaganza that runs from 5-9 p.m. onMay 6. Visitors to downtown Lancaster will have the opportunity to discover innovative exhibitions, performances and perhaps a few surprises as they walk the streets lined with trees and distinctive architecture.<\/p>\n

Unique boutiques and excellent restaurants complement the art galleries, artisan studios, museums, performing groups, professional theater, symphony orchestra and art college that from Lancaster\u2019s arts community.<\/p>\n

Another First Friday event this weekend will take place in Old City Philadelphia (230 Vine Street and locations throughout Old City Philadelphia, 215- 625-9200,www.oldcitydistrict.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n

On the first Friday of each month \u2014 year-round \u2014 Old City\u2019s galleries, studios, shops and restaurants open their doors for First Friday, in an epic exhibition of the neighborhood\u2019s vibrant arts scene.<\/p>\n

Old City Arts Association launched First Friday in 1991 to introduce Philadelphia to the improving neighborhood and the artists and designers who were bringing it back to life.<\/p>\n

Two decades later, Old City is a nationally recognized arts destination, named in 2013 as one of the country\u2019s top\u00a0ArtPlaces by the ArtPlace Foundation.<\/p>\n

On the first Friday evening of every month, the streets of Old City fill with art lovers of all kinds who wander among the neighborhood\u2019s 40-plus galleries, most of which are open from 5-9 p.m.<\/p>\n

West Chester\u2019s \u201cRestaurant Week\u201d for 2023 (www.downtownwestchester.com\/event\/west-chesters-restaurant-week<\/a>) is running now through March 5.<\/p>\n

This fun filled week is the perfect opportunity for area residents to support your favorite restaurants or explore something new.<\/p>\n

West Chester\u2019s culinary masters will be creating special multi-course prix fixe menus that will be featured for one week only.\u00a0 There will be dine-in and takeout options available.<\/p>\n

Participating restaurants are Barnaby\u2019s of West Chester, Dolce Zola, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Manj\u00e9 Caribbean Cuisine, Kildare\u2019s Irish Pub, Mae\u2019s West Chester, Mas Mexicali Cantina, Pietro\u2019s Prime, Saloon 151 Whiskey Bar & Grill, Santino\u2019s Tap & Table and Slow Hand Restaurant and Bar.<\/p>\n

Also participating will be Sterling Pig Brewery, Stove & Tap, Mediterranean, The Social, Sedona Taphouse, Side Bar & Restaurant, Spence Caf\u00e9, Ryan\u2019s Pub & Restaurant, Greystone Oyster Bar, Mercato Ristorante and Bar, Kooma Restaurant, Bar Avalon, Iron Hill, and Opa Taverna.<\/p>\n

The spring edition of Media Restaurant Week (mediarestaurantweek.com<\/a>) is slated to get underway of March 5 and continue through March 11.<\/p>\n

The restaurants will feature nightly specials such as a $45 three-course special at La Belle Epoque Wine Bistro.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s participating establishments are Ariano, Azie, Dos Gringos Mexican Kitchen, Fellini Caf\u00e9 of Media, Hill\u2019s Quality Seafood, Iron Hill Brewery, La Belle Epoque Wine Bistro, La Catrina Mexican Restaurant, Media\u2019s Towne House, Off The Rail, Scooped Homemade Ice Cream, Sligo, Spasso Italian Grill, State Street Pub and TWO Fourteen.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Flute Day Fair<\/p><\/div>\n

On March 4, West Chester University will host the 2023 Philadelphia Flute Day Fair (https:\/\/www.philaflutesociety.org\/fairevents<\/a>). The event will be held at Swope Music Building and the Performing Arts Center, which is located at 817 South High Street in West Chester.<\/p>\n

The Flute Day Fair will be filled with a variety of events including concerts, flute choirs, master classes, exhibits, workshops and presentations.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHeadline Guest Artist\u201d will be Linda Chesis.<\/p>\n

Some of the music acts that will be performing and\/or presenting workshops are Morgann Davis, Melomanie 2, Jocelyn Crosby and Doug Wimer, Faith Wasson, Cris Dohler Roda, The Pennsylvania Flute Choir, Centre Park Flutes and West Chester University’s Trivolti Flute Ensemble.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $45.<\/p>\n

The world\u2019s most celebrated professional taiko company Kodo presents the Philadelphia premiere of \u201cTsuzumi\u201d in the Kimmel Cultural Campus\u2019 Miller Theater on March 7 at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

For decades, Kodo has led the genre of taiko performance with dedication and innovation.<\/p>\n

In Japanese, the word \u201cKodo\u201d holds a double meaning. It can be translated as “heartbeat,” the primal source of all rhythm. If read in a different context, however, Kodo can also mean \u201cchildren of the drum,\u201d which reflects the group\u2019s desire to play drums with the simple heart of a child.<\/p>\n

Since the group\u2019s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo has given more than 6,000 performances in 50 countries on five continents. The ensemble also participates in a wide range of projects and events, which includes headlining major international festivals, contributing to motion picture soundtracks and collaborating with a wide variety of global performing arts leaders.<\/p>\n

An international phenomenon for four decades, Kodo explores the limitless possibilities of the traditional Japanese taiko drum, forging new directions for a vibrant living art form.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0\u201cTsuzumi,\u201d\u00a0the company traces its origins back to its beginnings and reflects on its legacy.\u00a0\u201cTsuzumi\u201d takes its name and theme from the drama character, and \u201cWarabe\u201d from the child element.<\/p>\n

\u201cTsuzumi\u201d opens with a very special piece in the ensemble\u2019s history that is seldom performed on tour \u2013 \u201cDyu-Ha.\u201d The late Maki Ishii, a modern composer who was introduced to Kodo by conductor Seiji Ozawa, presented this piece to Kodo as a gift to congratulate the ensemble on its debut in 1981. Kodo will perform\u00a0\u201cDyu-Ha\u201d\u00a0on tour for the first time in North America since 1989.<\/p>\n

The program also features Ishii\u2019s masterpiece\u00a0\u201cMonochrome\u201d\u00a0and other Kodo signature pieces such as\u00a0\u201cO-daiko,\u201d \u201cYatai-bayashi\u201d and\u00a0\u201cZoku\u201d \u2013 along with new compositions.<\/p>\n

Ticket prices range from $35-$65.<\/p>\n

On March 4, Fort\u00a0Mifflin\u00a0(Fort\u00a0Mifflin\u00a0and Hog Island roads, Philadelphia, 215-685-4167,\u00a0www.fortmifflin.us<\/a>) will host a special event called \u201cOpen Investigation Evening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haunted Fort\u00a0Mifflin\u00a0invites guests to Experience a paranormal investigation in one of the most haunted locations in the country.<\/p>\n

Participants can bring their own equipment or just a cell phone flashlight. They will learn tips from experienced investigators from Prism Paranormal who will be on hand to assist newcomers.<\/p>\n

Guests will be able to enjoy exploring areas that are not open to the visiting public and to learn the historic background of the site\u2019s most famous hauntings. This event is suitable for novice and experienced investigators alike and students from young teens and up.<\/p>\n

The event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $49.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia Comic-Con, which is scheduled to run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 5 at the Clarion Hotel Conference Center (76 Industrial Highway, Essington, 856-217-5737, www.philadelphiacomic-con.com<\/a>), features comic books, trading cards and other collectibles \u2014 both modern and vintage.<\/p>\n

The event, which has an admission fee of $4, also features a number of special autograph guests.<\/p>\n

The popular collectibles event, which is the area\u2019s longest running comic convention, will host dealers from all over the Northeast with sales booths featuring Gold & Silver Age comics, action figures, non-sport cards (including Topps \u201cJourney to Star Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d).<\/p>\n

Also featured will be Japanese Manga, gaming cards such as Pokemon and Magic the Gathering, original artwork and all the latest issues of today\u2019s popular comic book series.<\/p>\n

The roster of top-flight vendors includes veteran dealers and relative newcomers.<\/p>\n

As an added attraction, there will be hourly door prizes beginning at 11 a.m. with $100 in show cash to be given away.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re thinking about getting an RV — or any type from a home-away-from-home on wheels — then you should check out the Greater Philadelphia RV Show & Sale which is running now through March 5 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (100 Station Avenue, Oaks, 800-290-6886, www.phillyrvshow.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Visitors to the show will be able to shop at exhibits by many of the top dealers of Southeastern Pennsylvania without having to drive all around the\u00a0area to do so.\u00a0The dealers will all be assembled together under one roof allowing comparison shopping to be an easy task.<\/p>\n

In addition to exhibits displaying all types of RVs, the show will also feature supplier booths, camping information and dealers specializing in parts and accessories.<\/p>\n

The roster of participating dealers includes Stoltzfus RV & Marine (West Chester), RV Value Mart, Shady Maple RV, and Colton RV Pocono.<\/p>\n

The line-up also includes Hitch RV, Fretz Enterprises, Indian Valley Camping Center, Miller Trailer Sales, Campers Inn and RV One Superstores.<\/p>\n

Show hours are noon-8:30 p.m. onMarch 3, 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. on March 4 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 5.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $11 with children (under 12) admitted free with a paying adult.<\/p>\n

The Annual Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show will be held March 4 and 5 at Doubletree by Hilton (4727 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, www. dmsrocks.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Activities include interesting and educational exhibits of mineral, lapidary and fossil specimens, a \u201cFluorescent Mineral Room\u201d with brightly glowing, illuminated specimens, displays of minerals from the Iron Hill Museum, display of regional Native American stone artifacts.<\/p>\n

Demonstrations by members of the Delaware Mineral Society and the Tuscarora Lapidary Society may include: Gem Faceting, Cabbing, Wirewrapping, Pearl Knotting, Viking Wire Weaving, Gem Tree Making, Bead-Wire Ringmaking, Fossil Fish Specimen Preparing, and more.
\nThe show will also feature a large roster of outstanding dealers of minerals, fossils, gems, jewelry and lapidary supplies along with the \u201cClub Members Booth\u201d where show attendees can purchase self-collected specimens and self-made jewelry items at low cost and a \u201cChildren\u2019s Booth\u201d where youngsters of all ages can purchase inexpensive minerals and fossils from $1 and up.<\/p>\n

Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and juniors (12-16) and free for children (under 12). There will also be a large specimen raffle with one free raffle ticket per paid admission.<\/p>\n

The Kalmar\u00a0Nyckel Shipyard (1124 East Seventh Street, Wilmington, Delaware, www.kalmarrnyckel.org<\/a>) is hosting the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation\u2019s \u201cEighth Annual LEGO Brick Shipbuilding Day\u201d on March 4.<\/p>\n

The Brick Shipbuilding Day is fun for all ages and skill levels. Build STEM ship models or design your own incredible creation for our annual contests. The event culminates with prizes for ships built on site and at home.<\/p>\n

Participants will be able to build their own imaginary ships — with masts, wings, wheels or whatever they desire. They can bring one from home or build one on-site with the site\u2019s free-play LEGOs to enter into our contests.<\/p>\n

They can also learn to build STEM-based LEGO models of historic and naval vessels including Kalmar Nyckel,\u00a0USS\u00a0Gettysburg,\u00a0CSS\u00a0Virginia,\u00a0USS\u00a0Monitor\u00a0and many more.<\/p>\n

Shipbuilding kits are organized by skill level so that all ages can participate.<\/p>\n

The fun family event will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.<\/p>\n

If one of your hobbies is fishing, you should check out the \u201cFly Fishing Show\u201d which is being held March 4 and 5 at the Lancaster Convention Center Lancaster Convention Center (3 East Vine Street, Lancaster, 866-481-2393, www.flyfishingshow.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The list of special attractions at the 2023 show includes seminars and demonstrations presented by many of Pennsylvania\u2019s finest fly-fishing celebrities along with several national celebrities. There also will be a huge vendors\u2019 area with an array of fishing-related products on sale.<\/p>\n

The International Federation of Fly Fishers will be offering free fly fishing instruction at the FFF Learning Center located at the FFF booth.\u00a0Basic fly casting, fly tying and knot tying will be taught throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

The International Fly Fishing Film Festival will be held on March 3 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for the film fest are $15.<\/p>\n

There will also be booths featuring fly fishing celebrities with a roster that includes Joe Humphreys, Bob Clouser, Gary Borger, George Daniel, Bob Romano, Dianne Tidy, Dusty Wissmath, Thomas E. Baltz, Tim Flagler, Rob Giannino and Luong Tam.<\/p>\n

The show will be open from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Adult tickets are $15 for one day or $25 for a two-day pass. Tickets for children (under 12) are $5.<\/p>\n

Every Saturday and Sunday in March and April, the Chaddsford Winery (632 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford, 610-388-6221, http:\/\/www.chaddsford.com<\/a>) is presenting \u201cReserve Tastings \u2013 Wine & Cheese.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guests will join the CFW Crew for an intimate and educational 60-minute experience in the Barrel Room.\u00a0The trained staff will guide them through a pre-selected tasting of five widely diverse and award-winning wines from across our portfolio. The selections will be paired alongside seasonal local cheeses and other accoutrements to enhance your tasting experience.<\/p>\n

The staff will also discuss topics such as grape growing conditions at our partner vineyards and the onsite winemaking process from production to aging and bottling.<\/p>\n

The 2023 Pairing Line Up is Greeting Wine: 2021 Sparkling White; 2021 Presage with First Light Honey Ch\u00e8vre & an apple slice; 2021 Dry Ros\u00e9: Redux with Caulkins Creamery Noblette Hibiscus Petals; 2020 Mar\u00e9chal Foch with Highlander and Sour Cherry spread; and Niagara with Goat Rodeo Bamboozled<\/p>\n

Reserve seatings are $35 per person.<\/p>\n

Penns Wood Winery (124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford, 610-459-0808, Penns Woods Winery – HOME<\/a>) will pair wine and cupcakes this month.<\/p>\n

Each weekend in February, the winery will be presenting its 11th annual Wine & Cupcake\u00a0pairing which includes\u00a0a tasting of four wines perfectly paired with four custom mini\u00a0cupcakes from\u00a0Dia Doce.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $36.<\/p>\n

Harvest Ridge Winery (1140 Newark Road, Toughkenamon, harvestridgewinery.com<\/a>) is hosting a \u201cWine and Girl Scout Cookie Pairing\u201d on March 5.<\/p>\n

The special event with its own take on wine pairings will be held at 1 and 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $25.<\/p>\n

Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library (Route 52, Wilmington, Delaware, 800-448-3883, www.winterthur.org<\/a>) just opened its 2023 season. One of the first events will be \u201cDesign Month at\u00a0Winterthur,\u201d which will be held on March 4, 11, 18 and 25.<\/p>\n

Visitors can dispel the winter doldrums as they dive into the latest design trends and learn how to use them in their living spaces. Sought-after design professionals will share their expertise in \ufb02oral design, table d\u00e9cor, home fashion, and entertaining. Events include talks, workshops, demonstrations, special house tours, and more.<\/p>\n

This weekend\u2019s theme is \u201cFlorals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Margot Shaw, founder and editor in chief of\u00a0Flower\u00a0magazine, shares imagery and stories from her stunning\u00a0book\u00a0Living Floral. Participants can enjoy a glimpse into the world of today\u2019s top designers that highlights \ufb02oral styling in entertaining and decorating.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Guide to Walking at\u00a0Winterthur\u201d will be held on March 3 at 2 p.m. \u201cWinterthur Floral Designers Pop-Up\u00a0Demonstration\u201d is scheduled for March 4. \u201cBeautiful Botanicals\u00a0Workshop\u201d is also on the schedule for March 4.<\/p>\n

Admission to Winterthur is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (age 62 and older) and students, and $8 for children (ages 2-11).<\/p>\n

The Strasburg Rail Road (Route 741, Strasburg, 717-687-7522, www.strasburgrailroad.com<\/a>) is running a special train on Saturdays and Sundays in March \u2013 the \u201cWine & Cheese Train.\u201d<\/p>\n

Passengers can enjoy the luxurious, climate-controlled first-class accommodations and a tasting of select wine, cheese, and crackers as they travel in style down the tracks from Strasburg to Paradise and back. The train departs at 6 p.m. and the total trip time is 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWine & Cheese Train\u201d boarding is 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. Riders must be 21 or older and have their photo ID ready when they board.<\/p>\n

Featured wines are carefully selected from Waltz Vineyards, and cheeses are paired accordingly. Beer and select non-alcoholic beverages are also available for purchase upon request. Riders can purchase a souvenir wine glass on board the train if desired. Glasses are $7 each.<\/p>\n

In accordance with Pennsylvania law, alcohol is only served during the train ride. We are not permitted to serve alcoholic beverages while the train is berthed in the station.<\/p>\n

This popular train is available on select Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the season. Tickets are $65.<\/p>\n

On March 5, the Lancaster County Park Environmental Center (1 Nature\u2019s Way, Lancaster, https:\/\/apm.activecommunities.com\/LancasterCountyParks<\/a>, 717-295-2055) will present a special program titled \u201cMaple Sugaring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Visitors can join County Park Naturalists for ongoing maple sugaring demonstrations in the sugar bush of Lancaster County Central Park. They will be able to see trees tapped, sap boiled to syrup, and candy made from the syrup. Maple products will be on sale. Guests can drop in anytime during the program hours for an educational tour of the maple syrup making process.<\/p>\n

Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, 610-388-1000, www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) is now featuring one of its popular annual special events \u2013 \u201cWinter Wonder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter Wonder,\u201d which runs through March 26, celebrates the beauty of winter. It\u2019s all about outdoor spacious, indoor oasis, and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Outside, visitors can find a sense of peace and tranquility as they walk past textural grasses, seed heads and the dramatic silhouettes of trees that stretch up into the sky.<\/p>\n

Inside, they can bask in a world of warmth that features an overhead garden of hanging baskets adorned with such vibrant beauties as jasmine, cape-primrose, and lipstick-plant.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to enjoy a paradise of flowers and foliage, bursting with color — all in a beautiful indoor winter wonderland with a tropical twist.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter Wonder\u201d exists on two levels.<\/p>\n

Both outdoors and in, they can embark on a poignant journey with\u00a0\u201cVoices in the Landscape: Deeply Rooted with Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston\u201d Beginning on March 11. This is a series of 10 stops throughout the Gardens which honor the contributions of the African American community through the lens of horticulture and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Participants will follow along as storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston honors and celebrates the strength, resilience, and contributions of the African American community through the lens of horticulture and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Those taking the tour can hear an ancient Zulu creation myth paired with the oldest plant on Earth in the Conservatory; make their way to the Lookout Loft Treehouse and learn the story of the significance and symbolism of woods and meadows; and call out the name of an ancestor in remembrance at the Large Lake while a traditional spiritual soothes your soul.<\/p>\n

\u201cVoices in the Landscape\u201d signage is at each stop. Each audio recording ranges between three and eight minutes in length. The estimated time to experience the entire Voices in the Landscape exhibit is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.<\/p>\n

Inside Longwood’s Conservatory, visitors can check out the towering Clerodendrum schmidtii (chains of glory) as well as nearly 300 blooming orchids on display in the site\u2019s newly renovated Orchid House. There will also be rare blue poppies blooming in March but for only about 10 to 15 days.<\/p>\n

A new attraction this year is Longwood Gardens\u2019 \u201cScience Saturdays series.<\/p>\n

Beyond the boundaries of the formal gardens, Longwood stewards a rich variety of natural habitats. The rolling terrain of the Pennsylvania piedmont and changing ways people have used land over time provide us with diverse conditions for plant and animal life. Dr. Lea Johnson, Associate Director, Land Stewardship and Ecology, will reveal how patterns in the landscape reveal both history and potential futures for biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The topics for Science Saturday events are \u201cPlant Collections: Clivia\u201d on\u00a0March 18. There also will be another series called \u201cSweet Floral Treats\u201d\u2014a make-and-take floral design class where the designer draws inspiration from a sweet treat. Classes will be presented on March 22.<\/p>\n

The gardens are open from Wednesdays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, March 31. Hours change in the spring.<\/p>\n

As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d — tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/p>\n

Admission to Longwood Gardens is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and college students, $18 for active military and veterans and $13 for youth (ages 5-18).<\/p>\n

Hagley Museum and Library (Route 141, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-658-2400,\u00a0www.hagley.org<\/a>), a 230-acre historical village on the site of the original du Pont Company gunpowder mills in northern Delaware, has just opened a new attraction \u2013 \u201cNation of Inventors.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0celebrates the American spirit of ingenuity by taking visitors on a journey from the early years of the patent system, in the 1790s, through the \u201cgolden age\u201d of American invention, in the late 1800s. The exhibit features more than 120 patent models from Hagley\u2019s unique collection highlighting the diverse stories of inventors from all walks of life.<\/p>\n

Patent models are scaled representations of inventions and were part of the patent application process for nearly 100 years.\u00a0\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0showcases patent models representing innovations in a variety of industries from transportation and manufacturing to food preservation and medical devices.<\/p>\n

In the exhibition, visitors will enjoy engaging experiences around every corner, testing their knowledge of innovation and hearing personal accounts from inventors.<\/p>\n

The patent models in\u00a0\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0were created between 1833 and 1886. \u201cNation of Inventors\u201d not only features patent models submitted by inventors from the United States, but also models from inventors in England, France, Ireland, Russia, and Spain, demonstrating an international interest in America\u2019s intellectual property system.<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d includes patent models from well-known inventors and companies like Ball (Mason Jars), Jim Beam, Bissell, Corliss, Steinway, and Westinghouse. The exhibit presents important topics and timely themes including women inventors, Black inventors, immigrant inventors, improvements in urban living, and the ways Americans learn about and understand progress and change.<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d is located on the first two floors of Hagley\u2019s Visitor Center. Visitors can plan to spend about 30 minutes on their self-guided tour of the exhibition.<\/p>\n

Beginning on March 1, all guest areas (Nation of Inventors, the historic powder yard, the historic home and garden, etc.) are open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. \u00a0Last admission is at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Admission to Hagley Museum is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $6 for children (ages 6-14). Victorine\u2019s Valentine activities are included with regular admission.<\/p>\n

The newest exhibition at the Brandywine Museum of Art (1 Hoffman Mill Road, Chadds Ford, brandywine.org<\/a>), \u201cAndrew Wyeth: Home Places,\u201d opened last weekend and will run through July 13.<\/p>\n

This exhibition\u00a0is a presentation of nearly 50 paintings and drawings of local buildings that inspired Wyeth time and again over seven decades of his career.<\/p>\n

The artworks in this exhibition are drawn exclusively from the nearly 7,000-object Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Collection of the Wyeth Foundation for American Art, now managed by the Brandywine. Many of these pieces have never before been exhibited, offering a first glimpse at a significant treasure trove that will shed new light on the collaborative creative process of Andrew and Betsy Wyeth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew Wyeth: Home Places\u201d\u00a0shares the story of a remarkable immersive and intensive artistic practice that ranged across the full array of media Andrew Wyeth practiced. Over the course of a long and diverse career of many chapters, Wyeth repeatedly depicted a small group of historic houses in the vicinity of his hometown of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

In these weathered buildings others might have overlooked or even scorned in the face of gentrification and commercial development of the region, Wyeth found layers of emotion and association. These structures\u2014both venerable and vulnerable in a changing Brandywine Valley\u2014served as a means of pursuing his abiding attention to that which lies beneath the surface of things.<\/p>\n

Through living in this landscape his whole life, he engaged in an artistic practice of uncommon focus over an extended timescale, coming to know deeply the evocative buildings in a radius of just a few square miles and rendering them in an astonishing variety of compositions, handlings and approaches. As Wyeth said, \u201cYou can be in a place for years and years and not see something, and then when it dawns, all sorts of nuggets of richness start popping all over the place. You\u2019ve gotten below the obvious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the previously unexhibited works on view are the charming early oil\u00a0\u201cThe Miller\u2019s Son,\u201d\u00a0painted when Wyeth was just 17 years old, and the stunning watercolor\u00a0\u201cNoah\u2019s Ark Study\u201d\u00a0made at age 87\u2014both depicting the same property, Brinton\u2019s Mill.<\/p>\n

That the Wyeths came to own and restore this property for use as their primary residence is among the many contributions of Betsy James Wyeth, whose distinct role in stewarding historic properties in Pennsylvania and Maine, which informed her husband\u2019s painting practice, is a key context of this exhibition.<\/p>\n

Museum admission is $18 adults, $15 seniors (65+), $6\u00a0children (ages 6-18) and students with ID\u00a0and free for children (ages five and under).<\/p>\n

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, ansp.org<\/a>) celebrates the remarkable diversity of birds, their important role in ecosystems, and people\u2019s relationships with our avian friends with a special exhibition, \u201cConversations with Birds.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exhibition, which runs through May 21, spotlights familiar local birds, such as house sparrows and cardinals, and goes beyond to introduce the variety of migrators that pass through on astounding epic journeys across the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cConversations With Birds\u201d features amazing avian photography and video by local birders and wildlife photographers, including Anwar Abdul-Qawi<\/a>, an Academy educator, and Tom Johnson<\/a>of Cape May, N.J., a Field Guides birding tour leader; nest cam video footage of a peregrine falcon nest from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and of a bald eagle nest courtesy of HDOnTap.com<\/a> and the Pennsylvania Game Commission; hands-on activities that explain the body architecture that enables birds to do what they do; gorgeous taxidermy mounts of familiar local birds and also migrators that visit the area; and BirdCast animations from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology showing live bird migration forecasts<\/a><\/p>\n

Also featured will be bird-tracking products by Cellular Tracking Technologies<\/a> that use cell towers, GPS, big birds, small birds, and what\u2019s being used in research projects; an interactive media exhibit that shows five migratory birds that pass through the Philadelphia region on their seasonal passage between North and South America; live or video demonstrations (depending on the day) of Academy ornithologists and volunteers preparing specimens from the Bird Safe Philly<\/a> project for research and storage in the Academy’s world-renowned Ornithology Collection; and informal presentations by a diverse range of regional birding groups and participatory poetry workshops by Drexel\u2019s Writer\u2019s Room on select Saturday afternoons.<\/p>\n

\u201cConversations With Birds\u201d opens just ahead of spring migration when millions of birds will wing through the Atlantic Flyway north to their breeding grounds. During this period, April 1\u2013May 31, the partnership of Bird Safe Philly asks communities to participate in \u201cLights Out Philly<\/a>\u201d to minimize unnecessary lights by turning off, blocking or dimming artificial lights from midnight-6 a.m. to help keep birds from becoming confused by the lights and colliding with buildings.<\/p>\n

The exhibition shows that there are engineering solutions that can go a long way to helping prevent window strikes. Visitors also will learn about local birding groups such as In Color Birding<\/a>and Bird Philly<\/a>, as well as birding app options for the adventurous birder and the backyard kitchen-table pigeon watcher alike.<\/p>\n

\u201cConversations With Birds,\u201d which is on view through May 21, is free with general museum admission \u2013 adults, $25; seniors, military and students, $22; and children, $21.<\/p>\n

Historic Odessa (Main Street, Odessa, Delaware, 302-378-4119,\u00a0www.historicodessa.org<\/a>) is both a scenic and an historic site in Delaware.<\/p>\n

On March 1, Historic Odessa reopened for spring tours and celebrates the beginning of its 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Known in the 18th-century as Cantwell\u2019s Bridge, Odessa played a vital role in commercial life along the Delaware River as a busy grain shipping port.<\/p>\n

Today, visitors can stroll along tree-lined streets and admire examples of 18th- and 19th-century architecture in one of the best-preserved towns in Delaware. They can also tour a remarkable collection of antiques and Americana preserved in period room settings and quaint exhibits.<\/p>\n

Historic Odessa is open to the public from March through December, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.\u00a0 The site is also open Monday by reservation.<\/p>\n

March 5 is also a special day in Odessa for another reason.<\/p>\n

Visitors are invited to celebrate Dr. Seuss\u2019s birthday with Historic Odessa Foundation.<\/p>\n

Guests will have the opportunity to party with their favorite Dr. Suess readings followed by family friendly arts and crafts.<\/p>\n

The celebration will run from 2-4 p.m. in the Bank Building (201 Main Street, Odessa).<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d was scheduled to run until January 31 at a location in Fashion District Philadelphia (901 Market Street, Philadelphia, banksyexpo.com\/philadelphia\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the exhibition\u2019s stay in Philadelphia has now been extended until April 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d features the work of elusive, anonymous street artist Banksy. It is an immersive, multisensory\u00a0exhibit\u00a0featuring original works, projections, virtual reality and more to plunge you into Banksy\u2019s world.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here,\u201d the \u201cunauthorized exhibition\u201d features a plethora of original works and installations, as well as interactivity, in galleries that pay homage to the artist\u2019s themes, works, and sense of chaos, satire and controversy.<\/p>\n

Banksy, the British artist whose identity is still unknown, is considered one of the main contemporary street art icons. In Philadelphia, an \u201cunauthorized\u201d Banksy\u2019s exhibition lets visitors\u00a0dive into the controversial artistic universe\u00a0of the most influential creator of present time.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will\u00a0include over 80 original works, sculptures, installations, videos and photos including the now classics of the artist (presumed to be British). These pieces come from private collections and – with the collaboration of Lilley Fine Art \/ Contemporary Art Gallery –\u00a0will be exhibited in Philadelphia\u00a0for the first time.<\/p>\n

Banksy\u00a0is a\u00a0pseudonymous\u00a0England based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation.\u00a0Active since the 1990s, his satirical\u00a0street art\u00a0and subversive\u00a0epigrams\u00a0combine\u00a0dark humor\u00a0with\u00a0graffiti\u00a0executed in a distinctive\u00a0stenciling\u00a0technique. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls and bridges throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Banksy\u2019s work grew out of the\u00a0Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Much of his work can be classified as\u00a0temporary art.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d is running now through April 17 in Fashion District Philadelphia.\u00a0Timed tickets are $37.90 for adults (ages 13 and up), $28.90 for seniors, students and military and $22.90 for kids (ages 4-12).<\/p>\n

There is also another popular destination in the Fashion District.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0at the Fashion District (27 North 11th Street, Philadelphia,\u00a0philadelphia.wonderspaces.com<\/a>) is an experiential, interactive arts venue.<\/p>\n

Building on the success of annual pop-up shows in San Diego, and its first permanent location in Scottsdale, Arizona,\u00a0Wonderspaces\u00a0opened a 24,000 square foot gallery space in Philly a year ago.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0features 14 art installations that all play with the idea of perspective.\u00a0 The artwork ranges from award-winning virtual reality short film about a dinner party-turned-alien abduction, to a room where visitors digitally paint the walls with the movement of their bodies.<\/p>\n

New artworks rotate in every few months, creating an ever-evolving, year-round show.<\/p>\n

Tickets are for entry at a specific date and time. Visitors are welcome to stay as long as they please during operating hours.\u00a0The average time spent experiencing the show is 90 minutes.<\/p>\n

A few installations contain flashing lights, images, and patterns that may trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. All visitors must sign a waiver prior to being admitted into the space. Adult supervision is required for visitors under 16.<\/p>\n

Blue Cross RiverRink (Market Street at the Delaware River, Philadelphia,\u00a0www.riverrink.com<\/a>) is heading to the final stretch of another season. The last day will be March 5.<\/p>\n

Unlike most of the suburban ice rinks,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0features public skating. Ice skating is the only use of the ice. This winter,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0takes the ice-skating experience on the Delaware River waterfront to another level by once again transforming the annual rink into a bona fide winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

For 28\u00a0seasons, Winterfest has been Philadelphia\u2019s favorite Winter tradition on the Delaware River Waterfront, inviting\u00a0visitors for a chance to indulge in flights of fancy under\u00a0thousands of sparkling lights in a\u00a0winter wonderland with spectacular views of the Delaware River, complete with comforting warming cabins, physically distanced fire pit stations, games for the young and young-at-heart, delicious food and refreshing drinks, the signature holiday tree and \u2014 of course \u2014 ice skating on an NHL-sized rink.<\/p>\n

Another ice-skating option in downtown Philadelphia is Center City Parks District\u2019s Rothman Orthopaedics Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park (1 South 15th Street, Philadelphia,\u00a0http:\/\/ccdparks.org\/dilworth-park<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Ghost Tour of Philadelphia, which is based on the book, \u201cGhost Stories of Philadelphia, PA.,\u201d is a candlelight walking\u00a0tour\u00a0along the back streets and secret gardens of Independence Park, Society Hill, and Old City, where\u00a0ghostly spirits, haunted houses, and eerie graveyards abound.<\/p>\n

Participants can discover the ghost lore of America\u2019s most historic and most haunted city with stories from the founding of William Penn\u2019s colony to present-day hauntings.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Strasburg is a candlelight walking\u00a0tour\u00a0of the quaint and historic town of Strasburg in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Visitors will experience an entertaining evening with a costumed\u00a0tour\u00a0guide spinning tales of haunted mansions, eerie graveyards, and spirits that roam the night \u2026 in a town lost in time. Tickets are $20.<\/p>\n

Grim\u00a0Philly\u2019s \u201cDark Philly History Tour\u201d (www.grimphilly.com<\/a>) will be held every evening throughout the winter.<\/p>\n

Participants can walk with tour guides from the grounds of America’s first White House, Congress, and Liberty Bell to homes and sites of Hamilton, Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and more than 10 other Founding-Fathers. The surprising dirt of espionage, murder, sexual license and blackmail highlight the secrets of 1776 with a ghost story or two along the way. This tour is highly researched. Linvilla Orchard\u2019s\u00a0\u201cFore! The Planet\u201d\u00a0is a highly interactive and playful museum exhibit created by the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. This exhibition pairs important environmental issues with the fun of miniature golf.<\/p>\n

It features nine unique educational holes explore butterfly metamorphosis, a tropical rain forest, evolution, dinosaur extinction, food chains, and more. It\u2019s perfect for kids of all ages. The entire family will enjoy playing miniature golf while learning about our environment \u2013 every step of the way.<\/p>\n

The mini-course is open daily from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. through March 26. Tickets are $5.<\/p>\n

The amusement park in Bucks County will celebrate Mardi Gras now through March 19.<\/p>\n

Guests can join in the festivities and celebrate by dancing along with special strolling entertainment, participating in the Mardi Gras Mask Scavenger Hunt, and much more.<\/p>\n

There will also be Sesame Street-themed rides and attractions for guests of all ages.<\/p>\n
