It&#8217;s Blobfest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementToProof\"><strong>By Denny Dyroff<\/strong>, <em>Entertainment Editor, The Times<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_20703\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20703\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20703\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/515504627_1264677319002006_7192829602268048720_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-20703\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blobfest<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The word \u201cunique\u201d is one of the most misused words in the English language \u2013 right up there with \u201cliterally.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cUnique\u201d means \u201cbeing the only one of its kind.\u201d It is a very demanding qualification \u2013 a very specific qualification.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The annual BlobFest in Phoenixville definitely qualifies as unique.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In the entire world, there is just one BlobFest and it\u2019s held every year right here in Chester County.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe Blob\u201d is a low-budget horror film that was filmed at the Colonial Theatre and other locations around Phoenixville in 1958. The movie, which starred a very young Steve McQueen, has evolved over the years into a full-fledged cult classic.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cBlob\u201d fans from all around the globe will be heading to Phoenixville to participate in the Annual BlobFest.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Colonial Theatre (227 Bridge Street, Phoenixville, 610-917-1228, <a id=\"OWAe0805f26-6d70-6729-5b38-935c70127a0d\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecolonialtheatre.com\/\">www.thecolonialtheatre.com<\/a>) will host the BlobFest with a variety of special events now through July 13.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The BlobFest is not only unique, but also old. The event is celebrating its 26th anniversary this year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On July 11, it\u2019s time for the re-enactment of the \u201cRunning out of The Colonial\u201d scene. The dress code is billed as \u201ccreative\u201d so that the scene will look just like it did when that classic scene was filmed here many years ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festival will get underway Friday at 6 p.m. with the Blobfest 2025 Stage Show and Run Out.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The stage show will feature an appearance from Baltimore-based horror host<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Aurora\u00a0Gorealis\u00a0of\u00a0Shocktail\u00a0Hour, live music, Shorty\u2019s Short Film Contest, and an audience re-enactment of The Blob\u2019s famous \u2018run out\u2019 scene.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Colonial Theatre\u2019s \u201cBlob Ball\u201d is the final part of Friday\u2019s festivities. Guests\u00a0can\u00a0dance to live music\u00a0and\u00a0dress up like it\u2019s the 1950s. Tickets are $25.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There\u2019s also an additional Run-Out scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. &#8212; providing fans another opportunity to get in the spirit of \u201cBlobfest.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Screenings of the original and Spanish-dubbed versions of \u201cThe Blob\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0other horror movies will be presented throughout the weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Aided by an $8,000 grant from PECO, the Colonial will offer fully funded, free tickets to all screenings of \u201cLa Masa Devoradora,\u201d the Spanish-language version of \u201cThe Blob.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Another weekend highlight is the \u201cBlobfest Street Fair\u201d from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. on July 12 along Bridge Street. It features bands and DJs, a costume contest, vendors, the highly popular \u201cFire Extinguisher Parade\u201d and the Family Fun Zone with activities suited for kids ages 2-12.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will also be a Blobfest merchandise tent where visitors can purchase Blobfest memorabilia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">DJ Jholi will join the street fair performance lineup with a Latin dance party geared to getting participants pumped for the 6:30 p.m. screening of \u201cLa Masa Devoradora.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Eighth annual Blobfest 5K, 10K and Half Marathon races are scheduled for Sunday morning.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20704 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/malvern_fire_company_fair-188x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"300\" \/>From July 15-19, the Malvern Fire Company Fair (Monument Grounds, Monument Avenue, Malvern, 610-647-0693, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pa-carnivals.com\/\">http:\/\/www.pa-carnivals.com<\/a>) will be held from 6-10 p.m. each night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The free Malvern Fire Company Fair features rides, games and fun for the entire family and discount ride coupons will be available at local merchants.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Guests can ride an unlimited number of rides at the 2025 Malvern Fire Company Carnival for just $30 per person per day when purchased online.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This annual fire department fundraiser features rides for all ages by Houghton Enterprises, plenty of delicious food and treats, carnival games &amp; prizes, fire truck rides, and more.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fireworks will be held on July 18 at 9:30 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Ludwig\u2019s Corner Horse Show Association (1326 Pottstown Pike, Glenmoore, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludwigshorseshow.com\/\">ludwigshorseshow.com<\/a>) will hold its Fifth Annual Ludwig\u2019s Corner Carnival now through July 12 at the show grounds in Glenmoore.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20707\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ludwigs-corner-carnival-2025-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/>Enjoy rides and amusements by Houghton Enterprises, delicious food, a beer garden, and various vendors. Ages 13-17 and Ages 18 and up can compete in a timed Blueberry\u00a0Pie eating challenge. The winner in each category will be awarded a prize and more importantly have bragging rights for life.\u00a0 Registration for the contest starts at noon. Festival rules are no pets and no BYOB.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $29.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On July 13, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds will perform in concert on the Shady Grove Stage at 6 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $32.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The intriguing Paranormal\u00a0Cirque\u00a0(<a id=\"OWA5aecc7d5-147f-30ee-042b-647670944e1b\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/paranormalcirque.com\/\">https:\/\/paranormalcirque.com<\/a>), which is intended for a mature audience, is in the middle of a month-and-a-half visit in the area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The are four tour stops \u2013 two down (Lancaster and Lehigh Valley) and two to go (Pottstown and Dover, Delaware).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The circus visits Pottstown this weekend with performances at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets now through July 13. It wraps up its visit in Dover from July 18-20.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on July 11, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. on July 12 and 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. on July 13.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Big Top\u2019s stop in Pottstown will be at Philadelphia Premium Outlets, which are located at 18 Lightcap Road.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">When the circus visits Delaware, it will take up residence in the parking lot at the Dover Mall, which is located at 1365 North Dupont Highway in Dover.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Paranormal\u00a0Cirque\u00a0will expose audiences to a unique creation of combined theatre, circus, and cabaret with a new European style flare.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This innovative horror story, which is presented in true circus style under a Big Top tent, features different shades of sexy and an incomparable storyline. All the amazing food you can eat, unlimited drinks, and live music with one admission ticket.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Ticket prices are $64.95 for adults and $22.95 for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Kalmar Nyckel is holding public sails this weekend from its home port of Wilmington.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The cruises will depart from the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard (1124 East Seventh Street, Wilmington) on July 12 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and July 13 also at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">For two decades, the\u00a0Kalmar\u00a0Nyckel, which has its home base in Wilmington, has been hosting riders all over the world \u2013 especially in Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A ride on the\u00a0Kalmar\u00a0Nyckel is totally different from most tourist water rides. The ship is a beautiful recreation of the original\u00a0Kalmar\u00a0Nyckel, which was built in Holland in the 1620s.
