Each weekend features holiday festivities, shopping and dining.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On Saturdays from 2-3 p.m., the \u201cMaking Spirits Bright Holiday Music Series\u201d will feature local choirs and performances singing favorite holidays songs every Saturday on the steps of the historic courthouse on High Street. The schedule features West Chester Music Academy and Jazz Mavericks on December14 and St. Agnes Choirs on December 21.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Dressed in Victorian attire, The West Chester Borough Balladeer Carolers will roam around downtown West Chester and perform throughout the holiday season.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Performance dates are December 20 and 21.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Herr\u2019s \u201cHoliday Light Display,\u201d which is free and open to the public, will be open nightly now through January 5.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors to the site will be able to drive along a trail that is illuminated with more than 620,000 lights.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The special light exhibit will be open daily from dusk to dawn.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21101\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21101\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21101\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/griswolds-350x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">West Chester Griswolds<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The fabulous holiday light display \u201cWest Chester Griswolds\u201d (304 Dutton Mill Rd, West Chester, <a id=\"OWA7b2c5c1a-d8fd-5a8e-f81f-799271b0aaea\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.westchestergriswolds.com\/\">www.westchestergriswolds.com<\/a>) opened on Thanksgiving night and will run through January 2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 display has over 140,000 lights and 800 smart pixels. \u00a0Of which 99% are LED. \u00a0The display is completely computer controlled.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The singing light bulbs will sing throughout the night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, 610-388-1000, <a id=\"OWA27171779-c2ff-52ed-0cdc-7da52b9ab507\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.longwoodgardens.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) is celebrating the holidays with the annual favorite &#8212; \u201cA Longwood Gardens Christmas.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festive holiday display at Longwood Gardens, which is running now through January 12, features more than 500,000 spectacular lights, lavish decorations, holiday music and colorful displays featuring thousands of brilliant poinsettias, brightly decorated trees and fragrant flowers &#8212; all inside the heated Conservatory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A new attraction this year is the \u201cTaste of Christmas\u201d at The Fountain Room in the Gardens. The Fountain Room recently opened as part of \u201cLongwood Reimagined.\u201d In addition to tasty food, it also offers a premier view of the Main Fountain Garden.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The restaurant has 240 seats and features new dining options, new seasonal menus, and a private dining room, plus a bar and lounge.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be stations featuring gourmet entrees, a wide array of sweet treats, non-alcoholic beverages and hot chocolate. Special tickets are required.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets for \u201cTaste of Christmas\u201d at The Fountain Room, which include gardens admission, are $178.74 for adults (ages 21+), $117.34 (ages 13-20); and $74.94 (ages 5-12); members $136.74 (21+), $94.34 (ages 13-20), $51.94 (ages 5-12). Kids age 4 or younger are free.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The highlight of \u201cLongwood Reimagined\u201d is the West Conservatory. The 32,000-square-foot glasshouse was designed by Weiss\/Manfredi while the gardens and water features were put together by Reed Hilderbrand.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The colorful annual event, which appeals to the entire family, also has a lot of outdoor attractions such as fountain shows and nighttime light displays.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Longwood\u2019s Christmas celebration also includes a wide array of seasonal music &#8212; holiday concerts, organ sing-alongs and carillon performances.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">When darkness arrives at Longwood, a night-blooming garden of more than a half-million lights strung on close to 100 trees with approximately 40 miles of wire comes to life. A carillon with 62 cast bells plays holiday music every half hour during daylight hours. Longwood\u2019s Open Air Theatre fountains dance to holiday music each half hour &#8212; temperature permitting.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d &#8212; tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors to \u201cA Longwood Gardens Christmas\u201d can also check out Longwood\u2019s Garden Railway &#8212; a whimsical display set into motion with G-scale model trains. This is the 18th year that the railway has delighted visitors with special water features and custom trains traveling in and out of bridges and tunnels.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $42 for adults and $23 for youth.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Chaddsford Winery (Route 1, Chadds Ford, 610-388-6221, <a id=\"OWAc678d7d2-888d-c2b2-0536-94c045c1159d\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chaddsford.com\/\">www.chaddsford.com<\/a>) is presenting \u201cReserve Tastings &#8211; Festive Faves\u201d on select Saturdays and Sundays through January 31.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Guests will join the CFW Crew for an intimate and educational 60-minute experience in the Barrel Room.\u00a0The trained staff will guide them through a pre-selected tasting of five widely diverse and award-winning wines from across our portfolio. The selections will be paired alongside seasonal local cheeses and other accoutrements to enhance your tasting experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The staff will also discuss topics such as grape growing conditions at our partner vineyards and the onsite winemaking process from production to aging and bottling.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The following is the 2025 Pairing Line Up: Greeting Wine, Sparkling White; 2023 Chardonnay with Triple Cream Brie; Harbinger with Red Wine Salami; 2023 Cabernet Franc with Clothbound Cheddar and Cranberry Apricot Relish; and Holiday Spirit served warm with 73% Dark Chocolate Truffle from \u00c9clat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Many family traditions include events in Delaware County and the State of Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Throughout the month of December, Rose Tree Park (1671 North Providence Road, Media, <a href=\"http:\/\/delconew.azurewebsites.net\/\">delconew.azurewebsites.net<\/a>) sparkles at night with its annual \u201cFestival of Lights\u201d display.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Dozens of illuminated trees and lit displays draw visitors back every year to walk in the winter wonderland and linger in the festive atmosphere.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 50th\u00a0annual \u201cFestival of Lights\u201d is running now until January 4 from 5-10 p.m. each night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Delaware County\u2019s annual \u201cFestival of Lights\u201d began more than four decades ago as part of the nation\u2019s bicentennial celebration and became a popular local tradition for residents of all ages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Over time, the outdoor displays have grown from 50 decorated trees (one for each municipality and one large one to represent the county) to more than 75 lighted trees and dozens of festive figures, including toy soldiers, a gingerbread family and Santa\u2019s reindeer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This is a free event.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cChristmas Around The Farm\u201d converts a summertime destination for home-grown produce into a sparkling winter wonderland. The popular annual event at Linvilla Orchards (137 West Knowlton Road, Media, 610-876-7116, <a id=\"OWAfabed0e8-15e8-90c6-9596-a84a55d331f4\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linvilla.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.linvilla.com<\/a>) is running now through December 23.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors will be able to cut their own Christmas trees, or, if not so inspired, purchase them at the shop\u00a0&#8212; which also features other decorations, including holiday wreaths. Christmasland features freshly cut trees, greens and holly, poinsettias, hand-made wreaths and a large variety of children\u2019s toys and collectables.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Santa and his elves will be stopping by every Saturday and Sunday to visit his friends in Christmasland from 1-3 p.m. And there will be Caroling Hayrides on Saturday evenings in December that include the ancient tradition of Wassailing, singing Christmas Carols around a campfire and roasting marshmallows.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cHoliday Magic\u201d is in full swing at Riverfront Wilmington (Christina Riverwalk, Wilmington, Delaware, <a href=\"http:\/\/riverfrontwilm.com\/\">riverfrontwilm.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Riverfront Wilmington has always been one of the centerpieces of the greater Wilmington area during the holiday season with festive events and activities throughout the area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware (RDC) has dramatically increased that presence with the introduction of\u00a0\u201cRiverbright Wilmington,\u201d a full lighting of the Riverwalk and surrounding amenities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">At the end of November, the Christina Riverwalk was transformed into a walk-through holiday light display, with trees and archways wrapped in holiday lights, holiday d\u00e9cor throughout the area, and holiday-themed events throughout the season. The almost two-mile Riverwalk from Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park to the DuPont<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Environmental Education Center will be lit, offering guests a chance to stroll along the river and enjoy the festive display.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The illumination of the Riverwalk will create a magical winter wonderland for all ages to enjoy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The annual staging of \u201cHolidays at Hagley\u201d is an event that is always one of the most eagerly anticipated holiday attractions in this area every year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The popular Brandywine Valley exhibit, which is included with regular admission, is running now through January 1 at Hagley Museum and Library (Route 141, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-658-2400, <a id=\"OWA608a1582-54b7-1c52-bd64-b66515b6f8be\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hagley.org\/\">www.hagley.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cHolidays at Hagley\u201d returns with the theme, \u201cWhite Christmas Treasures and Traditions,&#8221; and will feature Holiday Home and Garden Tours, the sixth-annual Gingerbread House Contest, Santa Day, Holiday Nights Tours, and more.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This year\u2019s edition of \u201cHolidays at Hagley\u201d features tours of Eleutherian Mills, which is the first du Pont family home built in America. The tours, which will be presented each day from 10a.m.-4:30 p.m., feature decorations in a combination of styles from both the 19th and 20th centuries.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">During the Victorian years when candle-lit tabletop Christmas trees were the norm, hand-made gifts were attached to tree branches, and winter scenes were displayed underneath the tree. The upstairs Victorian Library shows how magical that looked with its mid- to late-nineteenth-century toys, games and dolls. The upstairs Parlor features a case filled with small ceramic animals well-loved by some of the du Pont family children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Early du Pont family French holiday traditions are remembered with a display of gifts that were given to E. I. du Pont\u2019s children on New Year\u2019s Day as well as the Twelfth Night party illustrated by the ornate French dessert service in the Dining Room.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Well-loved displays returning include the elaborate Twelfth Night celebration in the dining room and the Victorian library\u2019s Christmas for children with its table-top tree surrounded by toys and games. Of course, there will be warm glowing lights and poinsettias.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission is $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students and $10 for children (ages 6-14).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of the best holiday events in the area is the annual \u201cYuletide at Winterthur.\u201d This year\u2019s 42nd annual staging of the event, which runs through January 7 at Winterthur Museum, Garden &amp; Library (Route 52, Wilmington, Delaware, <a id=\"OWA47333ffc-29a8-28a1-a13c-2ff39cc0f055\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.winterthur.org\/\">www.winterthur.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors can revel in the beauty and warmth of the holidays and explore treasures of Christmases past with displays of holiday traditions from the 1800s to the early 20th century, including displays of: the earliest types of colorful lights decorating house exteriors; the du Pont family holiday celebrations; and the evolution of Christmas trees over the decades from the 1880s to 1960s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A new feature is a Christmas tree covered in lime green, electric orange, and shocking pink silk-screens &#8212; images depicting items found in the room.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cPop! Goes the Collection\u201d by Mack Truax and Bob Trent is one of seven holiday trees inspired by the current exhibit, \u201cTransformations: Contemporary Artists at Winterthur,\u201d highlighting the museum\u2019s Maker-Creator Fellows.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The current exhibit features the work of more than 30 nationally recognized contemporary artists inspired by Winterthur\u2019s collections, grounds, and history.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of visitors\u2019 favorites every year is the 18-room dollhouse mansion created by designer and philanthropist Nancy McDaniel over a period of 30 years. It features amazing intricate details in each room and is even decorated for the holidays.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As always, the rooms will be enhanced with the floral displays so essential to du Pont\u2019s decorating, and with special<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Christmas trees inspired by the beauty of Winterthur\u2019s gardens &#8212; including the\u00a0popular Dried Flower Tree in the Conservatory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Returning this year is a toy train display, featuring Standard Gauge toy trains. The display is presented by the Standard Gauge Module Association, whose members will construct the display at Winterthur. The display is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in December.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Special holiday programs throughout the season include\u00a0\u201c<a id=\"OWA89e2e4bc-922d-26e6-483e-8bbadc35395e\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.winterthur.org\/calendar\/wonderful-wednesdays\/2021-12-01\/\">Wonderful Wednesdays<\/a>\u201d\u00a0in December,\u00a0evening\u00a0events featuring live\u00a0jazz performances, caroling,\u00a0and workshops. In addition to the Wednesday evening festivities, visitors can enjoy a <a id=\"OWA732496c9-a5a3-c9fe-4b73-e28c84cbe55c\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.winterthur.org\/calendar\/a-christmas-carol-live\/2021-12-08\/\">live one-man performance of\u00a0\u201cA Christmas Carol<\/a>\u201d\u00a0by\u00a0Gerald Charles Dickens, the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens,\u00a0wine and cocktail tastings,\u00a0and family events\u00a0with\u00a0Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Timed Yuletide Tour reservations are required.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission to Winterthur is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and students and $8 for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours Estate (850 Alapocas Drive, Wilmington, Delaware, <a id=\"OWA343ba968-55f4-0866-830a-1263c55a22c2\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nemoursestate.org\/\">www.nemoursestate.org<\/a>), which is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., has reopened for \u201cNo\u00ebl at Nemours.\u201d It will run through December 29.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Ever since 1910, when Mr. and Mrs. duPont began living in their newly built mansion, the holiday season has been a festive time at Nemours. The Christmas decorations at the Nemours Mansion are often inspired by the architecture of the home, the customs of the duPonts or the French influence.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Mansion is also decorated by some of the duPonts\u2019 original decorations, including a German cr\u00e8che, which dates from the late 19th century. The figures are soft ceramic, unglazed and hand colored.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors can enjoy Christmas trees, wreaths, and hundreds of feet of garland on grand display in the Visitor Center, Chauffer\u2019s Garage, Mansion and grounds.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">All three floors of the Mansion will be decorated as well as the Chauffeur\u2019s Garage and select areas of the gardens. Decorations will coincide with the story of the Estate along with a festive Versailles-inspired motif.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Live music performances will be held in the Mansion throughout the season.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours Estate features an exquisite, 77-room Mansion, the largest formal French gardens in North America, a Chauffeur&#8217;s Garage housing a collection of vintage automobiles, and 200 acres of scenic woodlands, meadows and lawns.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours was the estate of Alfred I. duPont.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Alfred named the estate Nemours, after the French town that his great-great-grandfather represented in the French Estates General.
