{"id":37937,"date":"2026-04-30T14:42:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T18:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=37937"},"modified":"2026-04-30T14:43:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T18:43:17","slug":"on-stage-car-accident-leads-to-coast-to-coast-tour-for-colin-james","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=37937","title":{"rendered":"On Stage: Car accident leads to &#8216;Coast to Coast tour&#8217; for Colin James"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementToProof\"><strong>By Denny Dyroff<\/strong>, <em>Entertainment Editor, The Times<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_21348\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21348\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21348\" src=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/colin-james.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"215\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Colin James, Matt Andersen &amp; Terra Lightfoot<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are several upcoming shows at area venues that feature three or more interrelated acts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One features bunch of local musicians and the other showcases a trio of top-flight Canadian acts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On May 5, the Sellersville Theater (24 West Temple Avenue, Sellersville, 215-257-5808,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.st94.com\/\">www.st94.com<\/a>) will host the \u201cCoast to Coast Tour &#8212; Colin James, Matt Andersen &amp; Terra Lightfoot.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James, the headliner, was on tour last fall when tragedy struck.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThat was the original \u2018Coast to Coast Tour,\u2019\u201d said James, during a recent phone interview from his home in Vancouver, British Columbia.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe tour had just gotten underway and then I got involved in an automobile accident.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The veteran blues-rocker from Canada\u2019s West Coast was injured in a car crash while on tour on Monday September 15.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James played at the Niagara Falls Blues Festival in New York on Saturday night and was due to play at Jimmy\u2019s Jazz &amp; Blues Club in Portsmouth, N.H., on Monday night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fortunately, James\u2019 injuries weren\u2019t life-threatening but were serious enough to necessitate the suspension of the remainer of the tour.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Now fully recovered he\u2019s bringing his exciting blend of blues and rock music to fans in the States with the upcoming \u201cCoast to Coast Tour\u201d in April and May.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Joining him on the tour are Andersen\u00a0and Lightfoot\u00a0to celebrate the rich legacy of electrifying Canadian blues and roots music.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The \u201cCoast to Coast Tour\u201d brings these friends and fellow musicians together for an 18-city US Spring 2026 cross-country tour celebrating blues and folk to rock and soul.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Audiences can expect powerful individual sets and inspired\u00a0collaborative performances from three of Canada\u2019s most acclaimed and distinctive roots artists.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The \u201cCoast to Coast Tour\u201d honors the enduring power of music to cross borders, generations, and traditions \u2013 live on stage.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cA year ago, I put out the \u2018Chasing the Sun\u2019 album,\u201d said James. \u201cI was touring in support of the new album when the accident happened.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI injured my foot and my wrist. It was a rigorous recovery for my foot. I was using a scooter and was on my way to buy a helmet and was the victim of a hit-and-run. I got nailed on my way to buy a helmet.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWith my wrist, I needed a screw on my Scaphoid bone.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The scaphoid bone is a small, boat-shaped carpal bone on the thumb side of the wrist, crucial for wrist stability and motion.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><a id=\"OWA0c94d57f-f5f1-48a8-c51c-b2b396924395\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=59860448d3f82aeede91e01447fb5960196f3ea2dbde027d5976834b8617036cJmltdHM9MTc3NzUwNzIwMA&amp;ptn=3&amp;ver=2&amp;hsh=4&amp;fclid=072ff8ee-701b-61ff-045b-ed2871d960e2&amp;psq=scathoid+bone&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9vcnRob2luZm8uYWFvcy5vcmcvZW4vZGlzZWFzZXMtLWNvbmRpdGlvbnMvc2NhcGhvaWQtZnJhY3R1cmUtb2YtdGhlLXdyaXN0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The\u00a0scaphoid\u00a0is\u00a0essential\u00a0for\u00a0wrist\u00a0stability\u00a0and\u00a0motion,\u00a0acting\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0bridge\u00a0between\u00a0the\u00a0two\u00a0rows\u00a0of\u00a0carpal\u00a0bones.\u00a0Its\u00a0proper\u00a0movement\u00a0is\u00a0necessary\u00a0for\u00a0optimal\u00a0wrist\u00a0function,\u00a0including\u00a0gripping,\u00a0pinching,\u00a0and\u00a0rotational\u00a0movements.<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe bone and screw were on my playing hand,\u201d said James. \u201cWhen I was able to resume playing, I started back with a mandolin because if the smaller fret.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James, 60, has been a performer for 40 years and produced 21 albums. His track record includes 21 studio albums, eight JUNO Awards, 31 Maple Blues Awards and multi-platinum record sales.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">He has worked with some of the world\u2019s most revered artists including Bonnie Raitt, Albert Collins, Pops Staples, Robert Cray, Albert King, Keith Richards, Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, Mavis Staples, Carlos Santana, and Buddy Guy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">His latest album, \u201c<a id=\"OWAfc28a101-ff55-c272-fb21-3f05137646dc\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/3DYC4feYRD2asF8Hndk5E2?si=KX7NYWKeSoiu8QROpLtQTQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chasing The Sun<\/a>,\u201d features guest appearances from Lucinda Williams and Charlie Musselwhite.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The tour package features three of Canada\u2019s most innovative musicians.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">New Brunswick native\u00a0Matt Andersen, who now lives in Nova Scotia, is one of the most accomplished Canadian singer-songwriters and powerhouse vocalists active today.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A multiple Maple Blues Award winner, multi European Blues Award winner and JUNO nominee, Andersen was the first Canadian to take home top honors at the International Blues Challenge.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Terra Lightfoot, a native of Ontario and two-time JUNO Award nominee,\u00a0has drawn musical comparisons from Dusty Springfield to Van Morrison.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Her decade-plus musical evolution has included touring four continents alongside Willie Nelson, Bruce Cockburn and the all-female revue The Longest Road Show.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cTerra is an awesome guitarist and songwriter,\u201d said James. \u201cAnd Matt \u2013 Matt is a killer guitarist.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThey will do shorter sets and then I\u2019ll do an hour set with my trio. I have a bunch of iterations with my band.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James has been a Vancouver resident since the early 1980\u2019s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI was born in Regina, Saskatchewan,\u201d said James. \u201cWhen I was 16, we moved to Winnipeg. Then, I lived in Montral for a while until moving to Vancouver in 1981.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI had really musical parents. They took me to music festivals when I was young, and I was nun my first band when I was around 12.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI used to play more bluegrass than anything else. Then, I saw James Cotton play when I was 16 and that changed my life.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Blue music and Colin James was a match made in heaven.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James\u2019 debut album was the self-titled LP which came out in 1988.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The album featured several hit singles, including \u201cFive Long Years,\u201d \u201cVoodoo Thing,\u201d \u201cChicks &#8216;n Cars (And the Third World War)\u201d and \u201cWhy&#8217;d You Lie.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The album earned James a <a id=\"OWA8bdfb2fb-6740-092b-1131-a95e3396f408\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Juno Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Juno_Award\">Juno Award<\/a>\u00a0for \u201cMost Promising Artist\u201d and 15th best-selling <a id=\"OWA387cdb7c-325a-3fee-dd93-1643abf99796\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Canadian content\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canadian_content\">Cancon<\/a>\u00a0album in Canada of 1989. The album was certified Double Platinum in Canada in 1994.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It won him his first Juno and an opening spot on tour with Keith Richards. His second album,\u00a0\u201cSudden Stop,\u201d featured his hit \u201cJust Came Back,\u201d which reached #3 on the U.S. radio charts and earned him the Juno Award for \u201cSingle of the Year.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">James hit the ground running when he started out &#8212; and he hasn\u2019t eased off ever since.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">His latest album, \u201cChasing the Sun,\u201d was co-produced by Colin Linden. Guest artists include Americana icon Lucinda Williams, bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Charley Drayton (a rhythm section that has backed Miles Davis and The Rolling Stones), American harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite and gospel greats Ann and Regina McCrary.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe recorded the album at Colin Linden\u2019s studio in Nashville,\u201d said James.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cHe put together an incredible band with guys like Charley Drayton and Darryl Jones. Like all my records, it\u2019s a mix of originals and covers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI always find it pretty easy to sing and pretty easy to play \u2013 but writing songs is hard. I keep track of melodies and keep notes on titles.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNow, after having to cancel shows last year because of the accident, it\u2019s going to be great to get back on the road.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This will be my first time to play the Sellersville Theater.
