margin: 4px;\" title=\"EFallowfield\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EFallowfield-300x248.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EFallowfield-300x248.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EFallowfield.jpg 577w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-480\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">East Fallowfield Supervisors Mark Toth (left) and Joseph Pomorski review the 2012 proposed budget.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>EAST FALLOWFIELD \u2013 Residents expressed concerns over East Fallowfield\u2019s 2012 budget at the board of supervisors meeting Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the regularly scheduled meeting, the board held a workshop to adopt the 2012 budget for the township.\u00a0 Residents were primarily concerned over the budget\u2019s deficit, which, according to township supervisor Ed Porter, is projected at $140,306.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that acceptable to the board?\u201d asked resident Robert King.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re looking at another deficit.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Board chairman Chris Makely informed King that there was little that could be done about the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has to be [acceptable]\u2026we\u2019re looking at another deficit and taking money out of the general fund to finance the township\u2026we\u2019re gonna run out of money soon,\u201d Makely said.<\/p>\n<p>Makely informed residents that even if the earned income tax came in higher than anticipated, the township would still face a deficit of at least $70,000.\u00a0 Makely also stated that there were very few cuts that could be made to alleviate the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only places that you are going to make an impact in seeing a substantial amount of money\u2026is employees, labor.\u00a0 That\u2019s where you\u2019re going to see numbers,\u201d Makely said.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to help balance the budget, the board is looking to hire David Fiorenza as a part-time consultant to evaluate the township.\u00a0 Fiorenza has been contracted as a consultant for several townships and boroughs in the area, including South Coatesville and Kennett Square.\u00a0 Currently, Fiorenza serves as a professor of economics at Villanova University.\u00a0 The board hopes that Fiorenza\u2019s expertise will give them guidance on how to run the township more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking to have a professional tell us what we need to do to make this more efficient,\u201d Makely said.<\/p>\n<p>The board plans to hire Fiorenza for a period of up to 90 days.\u00a0 Should he accept, Fiorenza is to be paid $65 per hour up to 20 hours per week.\u00a0 Fiorenza is to examine all areas of the township, with exception to the police force, and is to supply the board with a list of recommendations at the end of his contract.\u00a0 Makely assured residents that he was willing to follow Fiorenza\u2019s recommendations, no matter how difficult some of the decisions may be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d be wasting money, we\u2019d be throwing money away if we did not go by an expert\u2019s opinions,\u201d Makely said.<\/p>\n<p>Several residents expressed disapproval to hiring Fiorenza.\u00a0 Resident Sharon Scott felt it was unnecessary to hire an outside consultant, claiming it was the board\u2019s responsibility to look into these matters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not need Dave Fiorenza to spend $18,000 to analyze this township\u2026you wanted to be supervisors, you should know and study,\u201d said Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Other business included the hiring of Rosemary Moore to the full-time position of treasurer and office administrator.\u00a0 Moore currently serves the township as a part-time bookkeeper.<\/p>\n<p>The East Fallowfield Board of Supervisors will hold their next regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>CAPTION: Board supervisors Mark Toth and Joseph Pomorski review the 2012 proposed budget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Board of Supervisors looks to hire an outside consultant to evaluate township By Jamie Richard, Staff Writer, CoatesvilleTimes.com EAST FALLOWFIELD \u2013 Residents expressed concerns over East Fallowfield\u2019s 2012 budget at the board of supervisors meeting Monday.
