Held in the 9\/10 Center gym, 527 students became Coatesville\u2019s 135th graduating class.<\/p>\n<p>The evening started out on a somber note, with a moment of silence for Mr. Anthony Mallozzi, the South Brandywine Middle School principal and former CASH teacher who died of a heart attack earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>After senior September Smith\u2019s rendition of the National Anthem, Coatesville Area School District Superintendent Richard Como spoke to the graduating class, reflecting on their time in high school, telling jokes, and giving them advice for the future.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of you have that same sense of Coatesville pride in your hearts,\u201d he told the graduates. \u201cThe person you became here will last a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5872\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5872\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5872 \" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"Valedictorian Cindy Ling addresses her peers. &quot;I urge you to look to the future with an honest, creative, and critical look at yourselves,&quot; she told her classmates.\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-144x144.jpg 144w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382-900x900.jpg 900w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMGP1382.jpg 1774w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5872\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Valedictorian Cindy Ling addresses her peers. &#8220;I urge you to look to the future with an honest, creative, and critical look at yourselves,&#8221; she told her classmates.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Como told them that only their actions will determine the types of people they will become.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not be remembered by our words but by our kind deeds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Valedictorian Cindy Ling spoke next. She urged her classmates to take risks, not just settle for most convenient options offered to them. Her message was timeless but uniquely updated for the young generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake chances, be uncompromising, and don\u2019t be afraid to put yourself out there,\u201d Ling instructed. \u201cConstantly challenge yourself. In other words, you only live once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ling gave an emotional thank you to her parents. She also thanked the teachers, listing the ones who impacted her the most. She recounted the qualities of each teacher that made them unique forces in her life, garnering cheers and laughter from her peers.<\/p>\n<p>Honor Soloist Jocelyn Brown performed \u201cBecause You Love Me\u201d, hitting notes that resonated throughout the gym, causing parents to cheer so loudly that for a moment, they drowned out the music. Fisher\u2019s intercom announcements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know everybody wants a shoutout, so this is your shoutout: I love you all,\u201d she told her classmates.<\/p>\n<p>Hoggard reflected on the past years, recounting the academic and athletic successes of the graduates. She talked about the teachers, \u201cwho gave us the best public school education you could have,\u201d and remembered half-price appetizers at Applebee\u2019s after football games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made our mark on our school and community,\u201d she proclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>Hoggard, too, insisted that her classmates aim high and take risks.
