{"id":8617,"date":"2013-10-31T08:29:04","date_gmt":"2013-10-31T12:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=8617"},"modified":"2013-10-30T21:34:04","modified_gmt":"2013-10-31T01:34:04","slug":"brandywine-health-foundation-announces-fall-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/?p=8617","title":{"rendered":"Brandywine Health Foundation announces fall grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">Awards to nonprofits serving area bring total to nearly $12 million<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0483.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8620\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"IMG_0483\" src=\"http:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0483-300x293.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0483-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0483-1024x1002.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/coatesvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0483-900x881.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Brandywine Health Foundation recently announced grants totaling $1,051,000, bringing the foundation\u2019s total giving since it began awarding grants in 2002 to over $11.8 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents of the Coatesville area have had a higher than average incidence of chronic diseases such as cancer, stroke and heart disease,\u201d said Elizabeth Silva Wood, a member of the foundation and chair of its Grantmaking Committee, in a news release.\u00a0 \u201cSignificant disparities exist in the Coatesville area because of this heavy burden of chronic diseases and the many living in poverty or without health insurance.\u00a0 We are pleased that the Brandywine Health Foundation can continue to provide such significant grants to effectively reduce some of these disparities that our neighbors continue to face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wood said the board unanimously approved grants to 17 nonprofit organizations providing vital programs and services to families in the greater Coatesville area. In August, the board approved a three-year grant to ChesPenn Health Services.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cWe are grateful to the Brandywine Health Foundation for continuing this extraordinary commitment to ChesPenn Health Services, the only medical home for this at risk community.\u00a0 Just one of the issues we are tackling is that many of our patients have behavioral health issues and are coming to us for a different presenting problem,\u201d said Michael Lucas, ChesPenn\u2019s president and CEO.\u00a0 \u201cPrimary care providers alone cannot meet all of these needs; therefore, a team approach to care is not only essential, but consistent with the comprehensive model of healthcare that is the hallmark of Federally Qualified Health Centers like ChesPenn.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas said earlier this year, ChesPenn partnered with Child Guidance Resource Center for a behavioral health consultant to work alongside primary care physicians, and also started offering integrated behavioral health.\u00a0 \u201cThis holistic approach will ensure easy access to behavioral health care, reduce stigma and improve outcomes for our patient,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Brandywine Health Foundation extended congratulations to the following non-profit agencies receiving fall 2013 safety net grants:<\/p>\n<p><b>Bridge of Hope ($4,000),\u00a0 <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/lancasterchester.bridgeofhopeinc.org\/\">http:\/\/lancasterchester.bridgeofhopeinc.org\/<\/a>; <b>Chester County Community Dental Center ($60,000)<\/b><b>, <\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chescodental.org\/\">http:\/\/www.chescodental.org\/<\/a><\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">; <\/span><\/b><b>ChesPenn Health Services ($750,00<\/b><b>), <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chespenn.com\/\">http:\/\/www.chespenn.com\/<\/a>;<b> Chester County Food Bank ($15,000), <\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chestercountyfoodbank.org\/\">http:\/\/chestercountyfoodbank.org\/<\/a>; <\/span><\/b><b>Chester County Health Department\u2019s Nurse-Family Partnership ($10,000),\u00a0 <\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nursefamilypartnership.org\/locations\/Pennsylvania\/Nurse-Family-Partnership-of-Chester-County\">http:\/\/www.nursefamilypartnership.org\/locations\/Pennsylvania\/Nurse-Family-Partnership-of-Chester-County<\/a>; <\/span><\/b><b>Child Guidance Resource Centers ($50,000), <\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cgrc.org\/\">http:\/\/www.cgrc.org\/<\/a>; <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Coatesville Center for Community Health ($13,000), <\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coatesvillecenter.org\/\">http:\/\/www.coatesvillecenter.org\/<\/a>;<\/span><\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Coatesville Health Development Corporation (Brandywine Center) ($6,000), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brandywinecenter.org\/\">http:\/\/www.brandywinecenter.org\/<\/a>; Community Volunteers in Medicine ($7,500),<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvim.org\/\">http:\/\/www.cvim.org\/<\/a>; <\/span><\/b><b>Crime Victims Center of Chester County ($5,000),<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvcofcc.org\/\">http:\/\/www.cvcofcc.org\/<\/a>;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Domestic Violence Center of Chester County ($10,000), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvccc.com\/\">http:\/\/www.dvccc.com\/<\/a>; Family Service of Chester County ($15,000), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.familyservice.us\/\">http:\/\/www.familyservice.us\/<\/a>;<\/span> Human Services Inc.
