It mandated that\u00a0five\u00a0percent of all pollution fines and penalties collected annually by the Department of Environmental Protection be set aside for environmental education.<\/p>\n<p>Since the inception of the environmental education grant program, DEP has awarded\u00a0nearly\u00a0$8\u00a0million in grants to support \u00a0environmental education efforts throughout Pennsylvania.
