Coatesville police seeking hit-and-run driver

Legally parked vehicle was allegedly rear-ended

Image 2Coatesville police said they are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred Sunday evening.

Sgt. Steven Smith responded to the 200 block of Charles Street at 8:49 p.m.;  a 51-year-old male, who was not identified by police, said he had left his vehicle legally parked and unoccupied when it was struck from behind by an unknown driver who left the scene, police said. Damage to the victim’s rear bumper was estimated at about $800 damage, police said.

Officer Rodger Ollis reported that someone shot an unattended vehicle in the parking lot of Scott Middle School with a paint gun. Police said the incident occurred Sunday afternoon at 2:26 p.m. Pink paint splatters and paintball-capsule remnants were observed on and around the vehicle, which was not otherwise damaged, police said.

Cpl. Guy Bruchstein responded to the 400 block of Charles Street on Saturday at 10:28 a.m., where a resident reported that diamond wedding bands, a Kay’s necklace, debit card, and $25 had been stolen from the residence.

Harassment citations resulted from a domestic dispute in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street on Saturday at 12:53 p.m., police said. Officer Paul Antonucci issued the citations to David Westley, 18, of Kennett Square, and Shauna Sherwin, 20, of Coatesville; Westley also received a citation for criminal mischief for allegedly breaking Sherwin’s cellphones, police said.

Cpl. Guy Bruchstein responded to a complaint on Friday at 6:32 a.m. in the 300 block of West Lincoln Highway. Police said a resident had come out of her home in the morning  to find that someone had broken the front and back windows of her car, police said.

A report of a man with a knife led Det. Shannon Miller to the 300 block of East Diamond Street on Saturday at 6:58 p.m., police said. Jose Santos, 31, of Coatesville, was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after he was observed in possession of a knife and under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol to a degree that made him a danger to himself and others, police said.

While on patrol on Friday, Det. Shannon Miller observed Steven Schweitzer, 41, of Coatesville, consuming an open alcoholic beverage at 7:43 p.m. in the 300 block of East Diamond Street, police said. Schweitzer was cited for the ordinance violation, police said. Earlier on Friday, Miller cited Demetrius Dixon, 42, of Coatesville, for the same violation in the area of Pierce Court and North Eighth Avenue, police said.

Officer Stephen Galletta took Audra Blackburn, 43, of Coatesville into custody on a probation violation on Friday at 5:35 p.m. in the 600 block of East Diamond Street, where she was found to be in possession of a crack pipe, police said.

Cpl. Larry Cooper conducted a vehicle stop at 8:28 p.m. on Friday at Olive Street and South Sixth Avenue, where he found a passenger, Raul Gaffney, listed as homeless,  wanted for a probation violation, police said. Gaffney, 39, was also found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said. The driver, William Emswiler of Coatesville, was cited for failure to stop at a red light, police said.

Officer Amy Nicholl responded at 10:37 a.m. Friday to the report of a theft. A resident of the 700 block of East Chestnut Street said sometime between Thursday and Friday, someone entered a silver 2005 Honda Civic and removed a black CD case that containing over 100 CDs, police said, adding that the vehicle was not otherwise damaged.

State police from the Embreeville barracks have charged a Coatesville man with burglary and related offenses, police said. Earle Gray Boyer, 66, was half-naked and intoxicated when he tried to gain entrance to a residence in the 1100 block of Broad Run Road in West Bradford Township on Friday at 11:45 p.m., police said.

State police pulled over a Parkesburg man for allegedly speeding on the westbound Rt. 30 Bypass, near Rt. 82 in Valley Township, on Saturday at 5:55 p.m., police said. Timothy Malone Jr., 26, was subsequently placed under arrest for multiple drug violations, police said.

A 53-year-old Coatesville man was also found to be in possession of drugs on March 16, said state police. Police found marijuana when they stopped Robert Russell Groves at 11:55 a.m. for a traffic violation on Cupola Road, south of Rt. 322 in Honey Brook Township, police said. In addition, Groves had an outstanding Lancaster County warrant for larceny, police said.

State police are seeking information about a driver who failed to stop for a traffic violation on the westbound Rt. 30 Bypass at Rt. 322 in Caln Township on March 17 at 8:55 p.m. Police said the white BMW X5 continued to travel at a high rate of speed; troopers chased it briefly before terminating the pursuit.  Anyone with information is asked to call the barracks at 610-486-6280.
