Caln to hold National Night Out, Aug. 4

nno-2015CALN —  Township residents and those from neighboring communities are invited to join forces on Tuesday, August 4, with communities nationwide for the 32″d Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Caln Township Police Department, and will involve over 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and Military bases around the world.

The township held its first event in 2014, and was one of only seven municipalities throughout the country to be awarded “Rookie of the Year” honors by the NATW.

National Night Out is designed to accomplish four goals. The first is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. The second is to generate support for, and participation in local anticrime efforts. The third is to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. The final goal is to send a message to criminals to let them know that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, residents in Caln are urged to band together in a township-wide act of solidarity aimed at bringing together citizens, police, neighborhood groups, town watch and public officials. People can get involved simply by keeping their porch or front yard lights on through the night, or by organizing an event for their neighborhood to accomplish the goals of National Night Out. The Caln Township Police Department will be hosting a community event at Caln Municipal Park for an evening of crime prevention and public safety awareness, as well as attractions for the entire family.

The township is offering thanks to the many generous sponsors, and officials say they plan building on last year’s success, and plan on an informative and fun-filled event for everyone in the area to attend. It will be held at Caln Municipal Park (across from the Giant) on Municipal Drive in Thorndale, between 6-8:30 p.m., on Tuesday, August 4. The event will feature guest speakers, a 5k charity run and fun walk organized by the Chester County Running Store, police, K9, and fire department demonstrations, community safety information, prescription drug drop-off station, a live band, food and refreshments, games, gifts from our sponsors, and entertainment for the kids, concluding with a spectacular fireworks show! Please spread the word to friends and family to join us in our celebration, and support the community in our efforts to promote crime and drug prevention awareness.
