Company commits funding for new and existing PLTY programs in its footprint
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (Oct. 20, 2015) – Schools across the United States may have an opportunity to expand their science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education programs through a grant from ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company. ArcelorMittal has committed $300,000 to Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to establish new PLTW programs, or sustain and enhance existing PLTW programs, in middle schools and high schools in the company’s local communities. A competitive application process opened Thursday, Oct. 15 for schools in the following geographic areas:
- Mobile Co., Ala.
- Cuyahoga Co., Ohio
- Coatesville, Pa. – schools within a 10-mile radius of 139 Modena Rd.
- Conshohocken, Pa. – schools within a 10-mile radius of 900 Conshohocken Rd.
- Steelton, Pa. – schools within a 10-mile radius of 215 S. Front St.
- Cook Co., Ill. – schools located south of Chicago Ave. and east of Cicero Ave.
- Lake Co., Ind. – schools located north of 129th
- Porter Co., Ind. – schools located north of Division Rd.
- LaPorte Co., Ind. – schools located north of SR 30/W1200 S and west of 300 E.
PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experiences for K-12 students and teachers. The organization offers five programs which create K-12 pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. Grant funds from ArcelorMittal are available for the PLTW Gateway (middle school) program and the PLTW Engineering (high school) program.

ArcelorMittal’s commitment will provide grants ranging from $5,000-$35,000. Schools with existing programs may receive $5,000-$10,000 to expand their programs, and schools wishing to implement a new program will receive $20,000-$35,000. Grant funds may be used for program expenses such as annual program fees, teacher professional development, and required classroom equipment and materials.
Schools meeting the grant eligibility requirements found on PLTW’s Grant Opportunities webpage may apply for grant funding beginning Thursday, Oct. 15.
