Washington, DC – Congressman Ryan Costello (PA-06) announced that his office is now accepting entries for the Congressional App Challenge. The contest, open to high school students in Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District, encourages students to program and design their own original applications, known as “apps,” for electronic devices. Sponsored by the Internet Education Foundation, the challenge offers PA-06 high school students the opportunity to showcase their creativity and programming abilities to a national audience and make contact with potential future high-tech employers. Entries will be accepted until January 15, 2016.
“In an effort to promote creativity and encourage students to hone their coding expertise, I have launched the Congressional App Challenge,” said Congressman Costello. “It’s my hope that the contest will pose a fun challenge for students involved in STEM-based education and stay ahead of the evolving technology. Maybe we’ll see a PA-06 student create the next Instagram or Snapchat app that will take our culture by storm!”
Congressman Costello is a member of the Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and the Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) caucuses.
Rules of Entry
Contestants will be judged on creativity, user experience, and an understanding of coding and programming skills. Participants must be 13 years of age or older and reside in or attend school in Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District. Teams of no more than four students are welcome.
The winning student or team’s app in each congressional district will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website (www.house.gov), and displayed in an exhibit in the U.S. Capitol. The apps will be judged by a panel selected by the Congressman’s office and winners will be announced on February 22, 2016.
