EAST FALLOWFIELD – Rescue dogs at LaMancha Animal Rescue got a special treat last week when volunteers from Evolve IP in Wayne built four doghouses for the outdoor shelters with funds they raised after visiting in June.
Nicole Linehan, a senior manager at Evolve IP, explained that volunteer projects are very important to the company and they typically volunteer at different events once per month. They had heard about LaMancha Animal Rescue from one of their employees who had worked with the rescue in the past.
As a result, a group of employees visited Laancha in June and volunteered their time by walking the dogs, cleaning kennels and performing other work on the property. At that time, they met Ellie, a terrier that had trouble with her back legs. She touched the hearts of the volunteers who later reached out to LaMancha to see if they could raise money to sponsor a wheelchair for her.
As it turned out, Ellie had been adopted and her new family was taking care of her special needs. The volunteers then turned their attention to another dog, named Phoenix that had also won their hearts. Phoenix is a pit bull mix that had been hit by a car on two different occasions and was recovering at LaMancha. The group then asked if there was another way they could help.
Geoff Player, volunteer and team leader at LaMancha, worked with Linehan and the volunteers to come up with the idea of purchasing doghouses for the outdoor kennels. Together, they selected a durable, eco-friendly doghouse that is made of material that won’t splinter or warp and is maintenance free, which is a necessity for the nonprofit rescue.
Altogether, the doghouses were purchased for just over $1200, which had been raised by the employees at the Wayne office since June. Once they arrived onsite at LaMancha, arrangements were made for the employees at Evolve IP to build and install the
On a beautiful afternoon last week, a group of 15 volunteers came back to LaMancha to build the new structures. Once they got started in the barn, It took only an hour to build all four doghouses. They were then carried outside, where Phoenix was given the honor being the first dog to see them, since he was the reason this event came together.
“To have a group come out and volunteer once and then contact us again to sponsor our rescue and buy these doghouses is amazing.” Player said.
At the end of the event, as things were being wrapped up, Linehan asked Player if they could do even more work while they were onsite. “We still have some time, can we walk some dogs while we’re all here?” Linehan asked.
The group of volunteers then began walking up the hill to the kennels to see what else they could do to help that day.
LaMancha’s experience with working with a corporate sponsor was so positive, they’d be interested in considering additional sponsorships as well. Please visit: www.lamanchaanimalrescue.org/ to get in touch.
