A 22-year-old Coatesville man was fatally shot this morning in the 700 block of Merchant Street, said Chester County District Attorney

A makeshift memorial sits in front of the home where a 22-year-old Coatesville man was fatally shot.

Tom Hogan.

Hogan said the shooting occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. Dominique N. Williams was transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:05 a.m. Hogan said police are following up a number of  leads but said no other details would be released at this time.

A couple of balloons and some plastic flowers were the only signs that violence had erupted at the four-unit building in a mostly residential neighborhood.

A woman who lives across the street and did not want to be identified said she slept through the incident. A man who said he was the victim’s cousin and had been in the residence when the shooting occurred said he was too upset to comment.

Coatesville Police Chief Julius M. Canale did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Hogan said Chester County Detectives are assisting Coatesville Police with the investigation. Anyone with information should contact Coatesville Detective Kevin Campbell at 610-384-2300 or Chester County Detective Butch Dutter at 610-344-6866, Hogan said.
