HARRISBURG – Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. (R-Chester) congratulated three young women from the Coatesville Area School District who were chosen as winners of the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest.

The contest was open to all young women living in Chester County, but only four were chosen as winners. Three live in Coatesville Area School District: Madeline Ladd of Saint Agnes Catholic School in West Chester, Emma Bennett of Scott Middle School in Coatesville and Jillian Smyles of South Brandywine Middle School in Coatesville.

“During the four decades I spent as an educator, I met many talented, bright students of the 74th District, and our young men and women continue to make me proud,” Lewis said. “These three young ladies are wonderful examples of the amazing things that are happening in Coatesville.”

To win the contest, Ladd, Bennett and Smyles wrote journal entries as if they were visiting a national park, explaining why it is a national treasure.
