Volunteers needed for Benchmark Cycling Classic

The final moments of the 2016 Benchmark Cycling Classic — and the 2017 event looks to be even more exciting. But the event needs local volunteers to help put it on.

WEST CHESTER — When the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic hits the streets of downtown West Chester on Saturday, August 12, hundreds of volunteers will form the backbone of the event. Over its 12-year history, the event has grown nearly ten-fold. With this surge in popularity, numerous events and family activities, comes a real need for additional volunteers. For this year’s edition, the race-day organizer, Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, has issued an early call for volunteers.

“Over the years, we have been fortunate to have an incredible army of people lending a hand to put on this world-class athletic event,” said Mark Yoder, President of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, “And this year, we anticipate a greater need for more volunteers in all areas throughout the day.”

There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities for all preferences: Community Festival set-up, Kid’s Zone set-up, race-course fence and barricade set-up, registration, course marshalling, crossing guards, tear-down and dismantling as well as other functions.

For those who can spare time in the morning and early afternoon, the Rothman Institute Amateur Qualifiers would be the perfect choice. The 9-race series takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the campus of the Bayard Rustin High School off Rt. 926.

In addition to the satisfaction of being part of this iconic West Chester tradition, volunteers will receive a special race t-shirt and food vouchers. For more information and to sign up, visit the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic website at www.GreaterWestChester.com/wcbikerace/
