VALLEY — It’s going to be bigger than ever and with with more fun, more attractions that ever, the opportunity to learn more about your health and it even offers a chance to get rid of those old, broken electronics in the house.
It is the eighth annual Valley Day, the annual celebration of the township, which will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Highlands Corporate Center on Airport Road. All of the fun and attractions of previous years are back, along with the always busy health fair — and new for 2012, the opportunity for folks to recycle their old, broken electronics, including old computers and cell phones.
As usual, the event is being sponsored by the township’s Board of Supervisors and the township’s Recreation Board and will run from noon to 5 p.m. Admission and the attractions are free. Carnival games do have a $3 fee. Food and craft items will also be for sale.
Patrice Proctor, the chair of the board of supervisors, said she’s excited about this year’s event and that she thinks it will be even bigger than ever — and said she is encouraging people from around the area, not just the township, to come.
“We’re inviting everyone to come, have some fun and enjoy a day in Valley Township,” she said.
As usual, the day will be packed with fun events — and once again book bags will be given, a total of 120 on a first-come, first serve basis.
There will be a live DJ, rock climbing, a petting zoo and pony rides, a magic show (at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.), face painting and clowns, Xbox Gaming, and “The Orbotron” and “Trampoline Thing.” Stubby the traveling Helicopter makes his debut at Valley in 2012. Another highlight: the annual talent show.
As is the norm, there is also a health and safety element to the day, as well. A health fair runs from noon to 3 p.m., with a number of local health care providers offering information and health screenings. There will also be fire prevention demonstrations, Westwood Fire Company will have vehicle exhibits and the Kids Care ID program will be offered again.
The electronic recycling is new. Attendees can bring their old computers, laptops, cellphones and other electronic devices for recycling. Even small household appliances (no major appliances, such as washers, refrigerators or air conditioners can be accepted). Flatscreen displays can be recycled, as can CRT computer monitors. No CRT televisions can be accepted. As these can often be difficult items to dispose of, this is an opportunity to declutter in an environmentally smart way.
The township is still accepting registration for food and craft vendors as well as participants in the talent show. Go to the township’s Website www.valleytownship.org or call the township office at (610) 384-5752 for more information.
