Awareness program on Oct. 11 will include national and local experts
An estimated 250,000 youth are tried, sentenced or incarcerated as adults annually across the country, according to statistics from the Campaign for Youth Justice.
Hoping to reduce this trend locally, youth advocates are presenting the second annual parent-initiated Youth Justice Awareness Month event on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor conference room at the Brandywine Center.
Experts from the Campaign for Youth Justice in Washington, D.C., will share national trends in youth justice reform. Local specialists will discuss innovative approaches Chester County is taking to implement change in the youth justice system, and videos will be shown that feature youth and families describing their struggles and successes.
The Brandywine Center is located at 744 E. Lincoln Highway in Coatesville. For more information, contact Debbie Willett of Child and Family Focus, Inc., at 484-238-4594, or Chaya Scott of the Coatesville Youth Initiative at 610-380-9080, ext. 106.
