19-year-old man charged with eluding state police

 Trooper tried to stop him for speeding;  he accelerated and crashed, police said

On Sept. 16 at 2:09 a.m., state police said Jakob Jo Penkivech, 19, of Downingtown, was observed speeding through a residential area on West Embreeville Road at Hazelwood Road in Caln Township in a black 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. When a marked patrol car attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Penkivech accelerated, failed to negotiate a turn, and struck a tree, state police said. Penkivech, who sustained minor injuries, was charged with attempting to elude authorities, police said.

Brett A. Washington, 29, of Coatesville, was arrested at the Boscov’s store in the Exton Square Mall at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 after store employees observed him conceal clothing items valued at $106 in a shopping bag and attempt to leave the store without paying, West Whiteland Township Police said.  Washington was booked at the West Whiteland Township Police station and then turned over to state constables who held unrelated outstanding warrants for him, police said.

Douglas Jeremiah Spann Jr., 28,  of Coatesville, was stopped on Aug. 30 at 1:57 a.m. on Rt. 322 in West Bradford Township after he failed to dim his high beams as he approached a state trooper’s vehicle. The trooper said Spann showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and he was charged with DUI, state police said.

A York man traveling eastbound on the Rt. 30 Bypass west of Rt. 82 lost control of his vehicle on Sept. 8 in Valley Township and struck a guard rail, state police said. Willem Ney, 22, was subsequently charged with multiple violations of the Controlled Substances Act, state police said.
