Troopers said they pursued two suspects fleeing Embreeville complex

State police from the Embreeville barracks said troopers pursued two suspects accused of stealing copper pipe from a vacant building in the Embreeville complex.

Two Delaware County men allegedly led police on a high-speed chase on Saturday after stealing copper pipe from a vacant building in the Embreeville complex, state police said today. Police said they attempted to stop the suspects’ dark green Ford Ranger about 6:16 p.m., but the suspects fled east on Strasburg Road toward West Chester.

Police from the Embreeville barracks said speeds “were consistently in excess of 90 miles per hour and at times reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.” A stop was finally conducted in West Chester borough, and Daniel B. Lanno, 25, of Ridley Park, and Lamont J. Foster, 48, of Chester, were taken into custody.  Both were charged with burglary, theft and related offenses;  Lanno also faces fleeing and reckless driving offenses, court records said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.

A traffic stop led to drug charges for a Lancaster County man on Friday, state police said. Thomas Smaldone, 28, of Conestoga, was pulled over for speeding at 5:44 p.m. on the Rt. 30 bypass near Rt. 82 in Valley Township, police said. Smaldone was charged with multiple offenses, including drug possession, police said.

State police cited an Exton man for drunken-driving on Sept. 29 at the intersection of Valley Road and Western Avenue in Sadsbury Townhip. Police said they were investigating the report of a disabled vehicle at 2:58 a.m. and determined that Justin D. Leathers, 21,  had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
