Don’t Retire, ReFire: March, lion or lamb?

By Gail Supplee Tatum, Columnist, The Times

You know the saying about March coming in like a lion and out like a lamb, with the intended meaning that March starts off with cold winters and ends with warmer, spring weather?

It’s a perfect metaphor as March straddles two seasons, ending one and starting another.

Our lives are all about endings and beginnings. March reminds us of that.

So now that I’ve clarified that, how are YOU going to end the winter and begin the spring?

First, how do you view the winter? Do you love all of the cold outside activities and then love being cozy and warm inside? How do you view the spring? Do you love the warm weather and the long days, enjoying all the outside activities?

Whether you feel like you want to extend the last few days of winter or whether you’re counting the days when spring officially begins, it’s going to affect your mood.

I call on Albert Einstein often in my articles to find out what his perspective is on the topic at hand. This quote says it all, about everything. There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

Either way, we are three weeks away from the first day of spring.

As far as the idiom of March goes, I’d like it to come in like a lamb, with no extreme bad weather left and out like a lamb, where we are able to stand outside, with no coat on, feeling the warmth of the sun beating down, arms outstretched, giving the world a big hug to welcome the spring!

I would add my twist and say while I want the weather to be like a lamb, I want to roar into March, like a lion, and continue roaring through spring, and life, actually, as lions are my spirit animal! Let us live for the beauty of our own reality. – Charles Lamb

I’m asking myself and now I’m asking you to get ready, in the next three weeks to, not only peel off the several layers of clothing, but also the several layers of sleepiness and lethargy that so often accompany winter?

Will we be able to stand on the threshold of spring and enter it with an uplifting and enlightening embrace, where we immerge victorious, having survived the dark days of winter, ready to take on what’s ahead?

While we still have time, start preparing for all things big and small. Big things like preparing our minds for expected and unexpected events and preparing our bodies to stay healthy and fit plus small things like preparing a simple dinner and doing a load of wash. Life is preparation.

In conclusion, ruminate on what is in store as the days get longer and warmer. Roar like a lion, with joy, especially if you’re prepared, because it will make you feel peaceful, like a lamb.

It wasn’t raining when Noah built his ark. Howard Ruff

Preparedness is the key to success and victory. Douglas MacArthur
