Hibernia Mansion gets decked out for holidays

A view of last year’s Hibernia Mansion tour illustrates the festive attention to detail.

This year’s annual Candlelight Tour will take cue from Hollywood

Scenes from 11 classic holiday movies will be represented in Hibernia Mansion this holiday season, under the glow of candlelight, during the Friends of Hibernia’s annual Candlelight Tours.

“White Christmas”, “Scrooge” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” are a few of the movies represented, and costumed tour guides will portray the characters found in these movies, as they describe each movie’s background. The tour guides will also provide historical facts about the mansion and the people who lived there over the centuries. The tour includes a stop in the Mansion’s Ballroom, where the Friends of Hibernia will provide holiday cheer and refreshments.

Candlelight Tours, offered each December, will be held on Dec. 7 and 8 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.  Admission is $5 per person, and children under 12 are free. Admission will be handled at the door. Call 610-383-3812 for more information.Throughout the rest of the year, the mansion is open to the public for regular tours on Sunday afternoons, 1 to 4 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.

Hibernia Mansion, home of 19th century ironmasters, graces Hibernia Park’s hillside. The restored mansion reflects the changes of lifestyle and social status of its various owners for over 200 years. Hibernia is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Pennsylvania Inventory of Historic Places.  It is also part of the Hatfield-Hibernia National Register Historic District.

Hibernia Mansion is located within Hibernia County Park, Park Road, Coatesville, four miles north of Coatesville, off the Route 82 exit of the Route 30 Bypass.
