Miss Pennsylvania visits Downingtown Area School District for World Kindness Day

Miss Pennsylvania, Alysa Bainbridge, and Springton Manor principal Robyn Spear discuss the importance of being kind with students.

In celebration of World Kindness Day, Miss Pennsylvania, Alysa Bainbridge, visited Downingtown Area School District (DASD) on November 14 to discuss the importance of being kind to ourselves and others with elementary school students.

At Springton Manor Elementary School, Bainbridge visited all classrooms to meet the students and to share how being kind got her to where she is today. At Beaver Creek Elementary School, she met with fourth and fifth-graders on the school’s Kindness Squad and read stories about kindness to younger students. She also conducted brief question and answer sessions with students at both schools.

“It’s important to be kind, not just on World Kindness Day, but every day,” Bainbridge said. “I earned this crown by being kind and serving others, so I encourage the students to continue to be kind, not only to achieve their dreams, but to be a good human being.”

World Kindness Day is an international observance celebrated annually on November 13. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations’ kindness organizations. It is observed in many countries, including Canada, Australia, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

“It is always the right time to be kind to others,” DASD Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Justin Brown said. “As a community, we have a responsibility to ensure that our school communities are safe and inclusive for all students, staff and families. Today’s event is a great reminder that we should always show kindness, understanding and empathy.”
