Due to forecasts of inclement weather, the Coatesville Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday — has been cancelled.
According to the National Weather Service, the forecast called for high winds and steady rain throughout the day.
Due to notice requirements of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) (Lincoln Highway is a state highway), the parade cannot be rescheduled for this year, but will return Dec. 2, 2023, organizers said Friday. Additionally, many of the participants would be unable to reschedule due to commitments elsewhere.
Here is the entire statement:
“Due to the impending weather on Saturday, December 3, the Coatesville Christmas Parade Committee regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2022 Coatesville Christmas Parade.
We know that a lot of preparation went into this parade and we are sorry to have to make this decision.
There are many factors that forced us to arrive at this difficult decision:
a) Rain
b) Winds
c) The safety of the participants and parade goers
We cannot reschedule for the following reasons:
a( The Parade route is a state road and PennDot requires three weeks notice for road closures.
b) Professional performers, parade participants, police and fire police volunteers have prior commitments throughout the holiday season.
In partnership with our wonderful sponsors, we will see you on Saturday, December 2, 2023 with a bigger and better parade!
Thank you to everyone involved! We appreciate your understanding!!
Merry Christmas!!”
