AGSD makes admin. appointment, OKs,new contract for support personnel

Mark DeEmilio

At the school board meeting on Dec. 15, Avon Grove School District’s (AGSD) Board of School Directors approved the appointment of Mark DeEmilio as an assistant principal at Fred S. Engle Middle School (FSEMS). DeEmilio has served as an assistant principal in the Oxford Area School District since 2017. Prior to becoming an administrator, DeEmilio was a health and physical education teacher and also served as a middle school athletics director.

As part of its Comprehensive Facilities Plan, AGSD’s former high school, located on State Road, is currently being renovated to become a larger middle school building for the District. When the renovated school opens at the start of next year, it will include students in grades 6-8, as opposed to the current structure of grades 7-8. This additional assistant principal position was approved to assist with the administration and grade realignment of the new middle school. DeEmilio will begin his duties with AGSD on January 2, 2023.

Also at the school board meeting on Dec. 15, the AGSD Board of School Directors approved a one-year contract extension with the Avon Grove Educational Support Professionals Association. The current collective bargaining agreement expires on June 30, 2023. The contract extension will be in effect from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.

“The Board is very excited to enter into this contract extension with the association,” said School Board President Bonnie Wolff. “The extension is beneficial for the District, the Board, the Avon Grove community and our support staff members.”

To maintain a competitive compensation plan within our region, the contract extension includes hourly wage increases for support staff, while remaining fiscally responsible with forecasted annual cost increases below the projected Act 1 Index. All other contract terms will remain unchanged.

At the Board meeting, Superintendent M. Christopher Marchese, Ed.D. thanked the Board of School Directors for providing our support staff members with a competitive compensation plan.

“The approval of this extension is indicative of the commitment of the board, the association and our staff members to the education of our students. We continue to be grateful for their dedication to AGSD,” Marchese said. “Thank you to all who contributed to this process.”
