Mary Ann Noir Anderson, 87, died January 22nd at her retirement home in Murrells Inlet, SC.
Mrs. Anderson (known as “Ann”) was a native of Newark, NJ where she graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. She continued her studies at St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and qualified as a Registered Nurse. While working in New York she met and married her husband of 62 years, Herbert Auld Anderson (deceased) of Brooklyn, NY.
After brief stints in Brooklyn, NY, Rochester, NY and Wayne, PA the Andersons settled in Pittsburgh, PA where they raised two daughters. While living in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Anderson returned to school and earned her BS in Nursing from LaRoche University. A practicing nurse for over 50 years, Mrs. Anderson worked in the emergency room at UPMC Passavant Hospital, the operating room at Allegheny General Hospital, and for several years as a Public Health nurse for the Allegheny County Health Department.
After moving to Downingtown, PA in 1987, she worked for a private allergy specialist until her retirement in 2010.
Mrs. Anderson was a devoted wife and mother, frequently spending time with her grown children and their families. She loved to travel – including Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, Australia, and the Caribbean – and enjoyed active outings well into her 80’s. She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Anderson Kane of Myrtle Beach, SC and Carol Anderson Boochever of Washington, DC, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
