The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry is announcing Benchmark Federal Credit Union as the Technology Sponsor for the regional competition of the National Civics Bee, allowing the top 20 winners of the essay contest to receive free tablets.
“The Chamber is excited to partner with Benchmark Federal Credit Union for the live quiz event. We greatly appreciate Benchmark FCU’s generosity and their investment in the education of young students in the community,” said Laura Manion, CEO of the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry.
Benchmark FCU’s sponsorship will provide brand-new tablets and stands for each of the 20 finalists to participate in the local competition, and all finalists will get to keep their tablets after the competition.
“As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, community involvement and public responsibility are central to our core values,” said Daniel J. Machon, Jr., President and CEO of Benchmark Federal Credit Union. “We can’t wait to see what the next generation of civic leaders has to offer our Chester County community, when these talented students participate in the upcoming Civics Bee.”
The National Civics Bee is an annual competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. In the first round of the contest, local 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will participate in an essay competition. Students will be asked to identify a problem, challenge or opportunity in their local communities and explain what they can do to contribute to its improvement based on founding principles and civic virtues. Judges will then select 20 finalists to participate in the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry’s local competition at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU).
After the regional Civics Bee at CCIU, the top three students from each local competition will then advance to the state competition on June 5, 2023. The first place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize in both the local and state competitions. Special guest judges will be in attendance at the event. The deadline for essay submissions is February 24, 2023. Click here to view the online submission form.
