Community Volunteers in Medicine, the West Chester-based health center that offers free health care to low-income uninsured workers in the region, honored its many volunteers Thursday night during a Celebration of Volunteers reception at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern. CVIM, kicked off its 25th anniversary year, with this event, which celebrated and honored the volunteers who donate their time and talent to provide services to the community. CVIM serves 4,200 patients annually, and boasts a volunteer corps that remains nearly 350-strong, even after the COVID pandemic.
The event included appearances by Chester County Commissioners and other elected officials, and Brian Mendoza, weather and news anchor of NBC10/Telemundo62, was on hand to emcee the festivities.
Over 200 volunteers from throughout the region attended the event, which offered special recognition to those with five, ten, 15, 20, and even a full 25 years of service to the community. CVIM’s volunteer fleet includes physicians (primary care and specialists), dentists, nurses, nurse practitioners, patient drivers, and interpreters, as well as front desk and other support volunteers.
In addition, staff member Judy Atticks, R.N. was awarded the first-ever Dr. Mary B. Wirshup Heart of Gold Award, in honor of CVIM’s longtime medical director who passed away one year ago.
