Among other projects, Coatesville has replaced 27 sidewalk ADA ramps.
On the heels of the Rt. 82/Lincoln Highway intersection realignment, the City of Coatesville has addressed six additional areas, in four out of the five City Wards, that have been in need of attention. The culmination of seven months of work and approximately $600,000 of investment generated from two sources of funding—Liquid Fuel State Funding provided by PennDOT and ARPA Funding (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021)—the projects were completed on October 9.
“This is the largest City-funded road-repair project since the intersection realignment,” says Roberta Cosentino, Assistant City Manager. “We took the opportunity to inventory and prioritize roads throughout the City. We were able to mill and pave severely damaged areas, replace 27 sidewalk ADA ramps, replace a guard rail, restore a collapsed water inlet to address stormwater infrastructure, and make much-needed improvements on six vital road segments.”
The City partnered with Cedarville Engineering to identify the most problematic roads, including a critical entry point on 13th Avenue, and worked in concert with PA American Water to dovetail with the work they were doing to update their infrastructure and improve the surrounding area.
“Road repair is directly related to the safety of our residents,” says Coatesville City Council President Linda Lavender-Norris. “The improvements enhance accessibility, and pothole repair reduces the risk of accidents and vehicle damage. We’re grateful for our relationship with PA American Water that allows us to address our infrastructure and establish and maintain a better quality of life.”
