Once again, Kennett Sq. will be the place to be on New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve in Kennett Square

Kennett Square gears up for its New Years Eve celebration like no other – Midnight in the Square, famously known as The Mushroom Drop! Get ready for an enchanting evening filled with laughter, music, and the iconic lowering of the light-encrusted 500-pound stainless steel mushroom.

Imagine a dazzling spectacle as the Mushroom, adorned with twinkling lights, is lifted several stories high, suspended in anticipation above Kennett Square. Come midnight, it gracefully descends, casting its radiant glow and ushering in the New Year in style. “It’s a moment of pure magic you won’t want to miss,” says Daniel Embree, Executive Director of Kennett Collaborative.

The party kicks off at 7:30 at the intersection of State & Union! We’ve got an entertainment lineup that’ll keep you grooving all night – from the soulful tunes of Kevin Pierce to the mesmerizing moves of the KMC Dancers, the rocking beats of School of Rock, and the energetic Fred McCarthy and Syde Two, led by the incredible Leon Spencer. They’ll keep the vibes alive until 12:30 AM.

Feel the excitement build as Bob’s Crane takes center stage between 8:50-9 PM, lifting the Mushroom in preparation for its grand descent. It’s a moment of anticipation and wonder perfect for the younger kiddos who can’t quite make it till midnight.

This year’s entertainment also includes a brand-new laser show that will paint the night sky with bursts of color. Capture the joy and silliness at our Photo Booth, and don’t forget to try your luck at our Mushroomed 50/50 Raffle, sponsored by Mushroom Farmers of PA. Pick a number, and you might just end up with the winning foam mushroom, securing a special place in a marked glass when released from the stem of the steel mushroom. Enter the 50/50 Raffle at The Mushroom Cap or on New Years Eve.

Indulge your taste buds with delightful options from Savannas Tender Love & Fries, sip on the warmth of Good Time Mushroom Coffee, and treat yourself to mouthwatering desserts from Robyn’s Catering. Because what’s a celebration without scrumptious delights?

In the spirit of giving, your admission is simple – bring along non-perishable food items for KACS. Drop them off at The Mushroom Cap, and keep an eye out for the KACS truck on site. Let’s start the New Year by spreading joy to those in need.

Many organizations and individuals come together to share the joy of the season. Conceived and brought to life by the amazing Kathi Lafferty, owner of The Mushroom Cap and her dedicated committee, this annual event for 11 years wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of The Mushroom Festival, local sponsors, and partners, including Bob’s Crane who generously donates their time.

Parking is available at Kennett High School and the 600 S. Broad Street lot have ample space. And for our friends needing a bit of assistance, a handicap-accessible shuttle will be on hand to transport you to and from the event site.

So, gather your friends, family, and festive spirit as we bid adieu to the old and welcome the new with open hearts. Join us at Midnight in the Square – The Mushroom Drop Extravaganza, and let’s make this New Year’s Eve a memory to cherish forever!
