Traffic in the Rt. 100/US 322 area is going to be a challenge after a large vehicle struck the Rt. 100 bridge and damaged the span, forcing the closure of both roadways for repair.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said Thursday that eastbound and westbound U.S. 322 and the bridge that carries Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) over U.S. 322 are closed and detoured due to structural damage sustained by a large vehicle strike at the bridge on Thursday morning.
U.S. 322 and the Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge will remain closed in both directions until PennDOT bridge engineers and its contractor can make the necessary repairs to safely reopen both highways.
Motorists are advised of the following closures:
- Eastbound and westbound U.S. 322 between Phoenixville Pike and New Street; and
- Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Taylors Mill Road and Goshen Road.
During the closures, motorists are advised to follow the posted detour routes.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur.
Built in 1955, the single-span, steel stringer Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge over U.S. 322 is 77-feet-long, 80-feet-wide, and carries about 15,691 vehicles per day.
