50K without power after storms rip through Chester County

Chester County was hit hard by a line of severe weather, Tuesday night, knocking down trees, power lines and leaving more than 50,000 residents without power as of Wednesday morning.

According to PECO, around 54,000 customers were without power Wednesday morning — by far the hardest hit area for power outages in the Delaware Valley. Crews were working to restore that power, racing against another series of thunderstorms expected this afternoon throughout the area.

Trees and power lines are down in multiple locations in the county — and some municipalities are suggesting that anyone who does not have to go out should stay home. New Garden Township was forced to close the Township Office due to a power outages. Additionally, New Garden Park is closed due to downed trees in some pathways.

Multiple other municipalities road blocked with downed trees, including West Chester, so great care should be used if using area roadways. Some may have downed, live power lines, do residents are warned not to approach any power line, but report downed lines to PECO.
