Kennett Library is stepping into a new season with a calendar full of programs and activities. December, January, and February are filled with programs and events that will fuel the community’s passions and inspirations.
Chris Manna, Executive Director, said, “It might be cold outside, but the programming at the Kennett Library is sure to warm your heart and bring you great enjoyment this winter. Don’t forget to check out our Bayard Taylor Room after you finish visiting, and take a moment to warm up in front of the fireplace!”
This season, the library will feature programs that inspire exploration and creativity. Celebrate the season across cultures and languages during Kennett Library’s Winter Warmth Holiday Concert on December 4th! The concert will feature various local choirs, songs, readings, and performances.
In December, the art gallery will feature local artists Lou Florence, Jeff Schaller, Donna Melton, Polly Davis Chalfant, and Cindy Losco. The opening reception will occur on Thursday, December 5th, at 5 p.m. In January, the gallery will feature the library’s very own Max and their astronomy photography. In honor of Black History Month, Dane Tilghman’s work will be featured in the gallery during February.
Meet The Author, a thought-provoking author series that highlights a new author every month, exploring a variety of genres, human experiences, narratives, and themes, will feature Kate Braithwaite in January and Kathy Brennan in February.
Bayard Taylor, the library’s previous namesake, would have been 200 this coming year. In honor of his birthday, the library will host an open mic night to celebrate all things literary on January 9th.
The Makerspace will highlight a variety of hands-on learning and workshops for all ages, including robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting, and coding.
Dr. Chris Penny, Directory of Innovation, said, “This winter, we’re excited to welcome our community to a season of new Makerspace programming at the Kennett Library. Every Friday afternoon, Friday Maker Lab in the Adult Makerspace offers patrons the chance to explore various creative projects—from laser-engraved glassware to personalized 3D-printed keychains. For our young creators, Saturday Mini-Makers in the Children’s Makerspace will inspire curiosity with hands-on activities like coding with Indi Robots and building with LEGO Education kits. Meanwhile, Studio Saturday in our AV Lab provides a dynamic space for exploring virtual reality, podcasting, and digital art. We look forward to a season of exploration, creativity, and inspiration for makers of all ages.”
Environmental programs include Sew Green, featuring sewing projects that upcycle old clothes for a new purpose, and Meadowitos CAN DO! Workshops will be held where participants will learn how to harvest and store perennial seeds and how to create little greenhouses for seed starting.
Live Better, the library’s health awareness initiative, is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Saturday, January 11, at 9 am.
Families can expect a full roster of children’s programming during the day and night! Join Kennett Library and The Garage for Theater, Body, and Movement. These sessions aim to help students practice theater through various activities, including theatrical games, body movement exercises, character creation, and, eventually, a stage performance.
The Kennett Library strives to offer a little something for everyone, and this is just a brief overview of what’s to come this season.
