County moves to fix error in election poll books; polls to remain open until 10 pm

Polling locations around Chester County discovered this morning that poll books lacked the names of third-party and independent voters and scrambled to get new poll books to the county’s 230 polling locations, Tuesday. UPDATE: The county announced that polls will remain open until 10 pm Tuesday night to allow more access for voters.

According to a county statement issued Tuesday morning:

“Just after polling places opened at 7:00 a.m., Chester County Voter Services identified an issue with the poll books at all precincts, which currently do not include the names of voters registered with third parties.

“Voter Services is actively deploying supplemental poll books to every polling location, to arrive as soon as possible.  Until the supplemental poll books arrive, any registered voter whose name does not appear in the poll book may vote by provisional ballot. Information about provisional ballots and how to track them is available at https://www.pa.gov/agencies/vote/voter-support/provisional-ballot.

“Chester County Voter Services will conduct a formal review to determine how third-party registered voters were omitted from the poll books and will take action to ensure this error does not occur again.”

“There are 230 polling locations in Chester County, and the County has 385,856 registered voters.  Of those, 75,076 are third-party registered voters which include Independents, Libertarians, and those registered as “No Affiliation” and “Non-Partisan”

Tuesday’s municipal election includes local municipal races, local school boards and judicial elections.
