A book by Chester County author Jen Bryant will be the focus of a free family workshop at the Brandywine River Museum.

The fascinating and challenging life of West Chester artist Horace Pippin will be the focus of a family workshop, author’s talk and book-signing at The Brandywine River Museum on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children will have an opportunity to listen to A Splash of Red: The Life and Art of Horace Pippin, a new children’s book written by Chester County author Jen Bryant and illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winner Melissa Sweet. After the story, visitors can see Pippin’s paintings in the gallery and make pictures with the color red.

At 1 p.m., Bryant will discuss researching and writing the book, followed by a book-signing. Museum admission is free until noon on Sundays through Nov. 24, with the exception of Memorial Day weekend.

The museum, located on U.S. 1 in Chadds Ford, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.brandywinemuseum.org
