Free income-tax assistance is still available for qualified residents.

Free income-tax assistance is still available for qualified residents.

Tax outreach is being offered to area residents who qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), which is run by Life Transforming Ministries in Coatesville.

Modeled after a similar IRS program, VITA has been helping low- and moderate- income households who file basic tax returns, including persons with disabilities, limited English proficiency, families, and older taxpayers who file Form 1040 for federal tax returns, since 2004.

Life Transforming Ministries,  645 East Lincoln Highway, will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. until April 15.

No appointment is necessary but availability of services may be limited by tax form and income level, so please contact the LTM VITA office at (610) 380-9099 if your return is complicated or your income is above $55,000.

VITA sites specialize in serving those who may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.  EITC is a refundable tax credit of up to $5891 for low wage earners and is recognized as the nation’s largest anti-poverty program.  Families who earn up to approximately $50,000 can receive the credit although an estimated 20% of those eligible do not claim it because they do not complete a tax return.
