The Coatesville Area School District – especially the Art Department faculty – is celebrating the success of the 10th Annual CASD Art Show last weekend at the downtown Coatesville Cultural Society galleries.

No awards were given at “Coatesville Creative Connections,” but they weren’t planned. “The esteemed honor is being chosen to represent your school in a district-wide event,” said Alex DiGuiseppe, the district’s art coordinator.

Over 300 hundred works of art were displayed, showcasing their multi-talented student creators. Included in the exhibit were canvas paintings, pop art sculptures, ceramic vessels, wood sculptures, drawings and a vast collection of crafts, including weavings, jewelry, dolls, mobiles, painted gourds and silk banners. Each Coatesville school and every level was represented from kindergarten through 12th grade, school officials said.

“Polar Bear” by first-grader Ryan Vishnesk was featured in the show.

DiGuiseppe said items were not for sale, but that did not stop visitors from approaching some of the young artists concerning the potential commission of their work for sale, he said.

Over 300 people attended the gala opening on Friday evening and approximately 140 visited during the Saturday hours, he said.

District spokeswoman Jonette Marcus said the district wanted to express appreciation to the hundreds of spectators who had an opportunity to meet the student artists and celebrate the arts in the community.
